Hi all,

My names Jason & I'm 16 years of age. I've just left school, yet really small for my age. I'm around 5'2, 5'3. Around 157.5, maybe more -- I assume this is around 5'2? Small, I know. However, I seem to be going through a "growth" spurt -- finally! My mates have started to notice I am growing -- which is great.

Is there anyway to make sure you achieve your full potential height? Eating well ect I should imagine. I also lift weights, can this have any effect on my height? Can I expect to be around 5'8 or more? Or do I have no chance? My mum is pretty small, but my dad is average, really. I have a brother tho' that is over 6 foot, but we have different dads, and is dad isn't really tall tall -- does this mean I could be around 5'10?

Also, I've started to get a few hairs under my arms. I have pubes down below... but was just wondering how long it would be to fully grow hair under the arms? What age will I stop puberty & growing round about? I started around the age of my 16th birthday. I've also started to get facial hair. 🙂

Finally, I've seen this: http://www.super-growth.com/

Is this something you'd recommend getting, or staying well clear from?

Thanks.

-- Jason

Hi Jason

Being an older lady I think I'd better leave it to the guys to answer your gender specific questions! But I'd say stay clear of that super growth stuff. Put only good things into your body, find out about eating nutritionally. Don't just lift weights but do some other things too: swimming, football, plain old walking. And look around. See what the world looks like; be mindful of the wonders of nature. Growth doesn't just happen on the outside; what goes on inside you is actually of greater importance. If you have a big heart then you'll be a big guy, however tall you are!!
Welcome to HP.

Love
Sunanda xx

Hi Jason

Guys don't usually stop growing until they're about 21 so I'd say you've got a good few years yet!

Eat well - lots of protein like meat, good stuff like fruit and veg, and avoid too much fat.

Avoid the supplements. Do it with natural stuff and you won't go far wrong.

Oh and remember, it's not what you've got it's what you do with it that counts! My hubby is 5' 8" and packed full of dynamite!

I left school at 16 as a 5ft 8 skinny pipe cleaner, with no muscles to speak of. I joined the army and two years later was 6ft 4 still quite skinny but a bit muscley, but all that happened a few stones ago, now 6 ft 5 100kg. dont worry too much , things will happen in due course. as previuosly stated eat a natural varied diet and just enjoy life,

Jason,

Hair growth will vary from person to person. Some kids start growing body/facial hair as an early teenager, others not till their late teens.

At 21, whilst there was hair where you'd expect it 😉 I didn't have any chest hair, but as the years passed after this it started to grow. Facial hair tends to start growing quite light and fluffy at first, but the more you shave over the years, the more stubbly and bristly it becomes.

To be honest I wouldn't worry about it, cos anybody with any sense won't judge you based on how much your body hair has grown as they know that everyone is different.

Thanks all for your replies, really appreciate it.

Oh, I'm not worried about 'down-below' -- I'd say I'm average, if not bigger LOL. 😉

Yup, I've noticed that facial hair is light and fluffy. Suits me well, nice little mustache.

Even though I'm still pretty small, I've got go out and buy a load of new clothes as most of my current ones won't fit me - so that's a good thing, hope so anyway. 🙂

Thanks again.

Hi again,

I saw on the web that when you start growing facial hair, you won't grow much more. Is this true?

I don't have a lot of facial hair, but a bit under my nose -- mustache. I've already gained a couple of inches since leaving school in early June. Now starting to grow underarm hair, so can I be hopeful of gaining more inches over the next few years?

By grow much more, I mean height wise.

NOTE: Sorry, couldn't edit my post.

on average you will tend to be about 2-3 inches taller than your father going by current trends, I am 5 inches taller than my dad, my 13 year old is already 5ft 10 and takes size 12 shoes, I worked out his height using a formula of doubling his height on his third birthday, he will be 6'7 approx
try digging out some old photos of when you were 3............ I do think you are worrying unduly, stress can have a negative consequence on development also.

I take it you mean when your facial hair starts to grow you won't start to grow it anywhere else on your body? Not sure where you read that but it's not true. e.g. I had facial hair long before I had any chest hair.

Hair growth is caused, mainly, by hormones in the body. As we go through life our hormone levels can vary and hair can start growing or can even stop growing or fall out. The causes can vary from diet to emotional/stress levels amongst others.

Just let whatever happens happen.

Thanks for your reply. I meant by "height" wise.... not that hair won't grow in other places. 😉

Even so, one thing is not dependant on the other. I knew kids at school who grew facial hair quite early on, but it didn't stop them growing in height.

If only biology was that simple, I would have taken it at GCSE (and yes I was just there for the start of the GCSE's rather than O Levels; showing my age hehe!). 😉

I'm pretty sure one's adult height is double one's height at 2, not 3.
We were told that when given height & growth charts when our children were born. Double their height on their 2nd birthday. Babies grow astonishingly quickly!

My 18-yr-old son is short for his age, & has always been (despite tall parents). He was always below the bottom centile line on the charts.
I hated it when people used to say, in his hearing: "don't worry, he'll shoot up later" & quote friends of theirs who did. It implies that they think he has a problem, or is somehow 'less than'. How dare they?! At least we know not to waste further time on them & their cruel prejudices. I replied that no, I wasn't worried actually. Some people are shorter than others - GET OVER IT!

Just as some people are nicer, kinder, more intelligent or musical or artistic too - or 'cooler', or more talented or stronger - comparisons can cover a huge range of areas, so no need to fixate on height.
Character and personality, responsiveness & responsibility, humour & trustworthiness etc, etc are SO much more important!

My boyfriend is shorter than me, balding, & extremely likeable, beautiful, kind, courteous, interesting, charming - besides attractive to many women!

My lovely teenage son is short, healthy, fit, confident, clever, mature, insightful, funny, cool & popular. And happy & loved.
[ Biased? Me? 😮 Lol. ]

Brightest blessings, Jason, for your health & happiness. 🙂

Thank-you all, really appreciate your input on this one.

I guess being a teen leads to loads of questions. 🙂

I have another question: My mum is around 5'1, 5'2, and my dads around 5'4, 5'5 (maybe more). I'm roughly similar to my dad, and I seem to be going through at rapid growth spurt at the moment -- I have growing pains nearly every night. Now, I know it is a difficult question to answer, as no one really knows the answers, but what height do you recon I'll be? Also, is there any chance I can know what stage I'm at in puberty? I have pubes (down below), voice has broke (thank-god), and I'm now just starting to see a few hairs under my arms. Last question: How long does it take for underarm hair to become more visible and darker, like down-below?

Many thanks,
Jason
