Hello

Can any body give me any information on a Irrigular Heart beat/palpitations? Im 29 And suffer from this greatly - even when im in a relaxed state my heart is thumping away in my chest, its very annoying and sometime's i cant sleep because of it. I would be a natural worrier and have always suffered form anxiety however iv been practising relaxation daily for years now and still i suffer from it.Im not sure wehter this is an emotional problem or a genuine physical one - i am waiting for a cardiologist appointment but im on a waiting list for 4 months. If i could get this healed or find an underlying root to this problem i would be delighted as then it could heal from there. Can anyone help please

Kind regards

Catrina X

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Hello Catrina and welcome to HP!

I am not a medical expert but have suffered from palpitations and a speedy heart rate in the past. In my own case it was often down to anxiety and then getting more anxious because of the heart thing. Also things like coffee/caffeine tend to affect my heartbeat. Now I no longer suffer from anxiety and watch my diet I very rarely suffer from this problem.

It is good to get yourself checked out though, just to rule out anything underlying!

Hope this helps, I'm sure you'll have lots of good advice here! Lisa x

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Hi Catrina

In short, had loads of panic attacks and felt unable to cope anymore (about a year and a half ago). Got to the point where I had a breakdown over a weekend and told my nearest and dearest how bad I felt, I had started to get agoraphobic which was scaring me. Cried for a couple of days non stop and talked and talked. Couldn't believe I'd ever get better again. Went to see GP and got prescribed citalopram/cipramil, a low dose of anti anxiety medication. Things got worse for a couple of days then started to get better. Went for counselling as things from the past (childhood) were preying on my mind and getting me all bitter and upset. Counselling helped as did being honest with my hubby, friends and family - who had no idea what I was going through as i felt too ashamed to tell them for 2 years! Went to a great holistic therapist who gave me reiki and reflexology. Both helped, especially the reiki. Read a book about panic which put things into perspective. Stayed on medication for about 5-6 months I think then gradually came off of them. Have not had a panic attack since, though like you I am a natural worrier and anxiety suffererer so I have had a little anxiety from time to time.

Sorry I can't give you one answer! I looked on the above i.e. counselling, reiki, reflexology, relaxation, yoga etc. as my tools to deal with this. One of the main things is breathing too, I found that my breathing had gone to pot when the anxiety attacks came. I can usually catch myself now and have learnt to breathe more deeply, I am convinced that this has stopped me from having panic attacks.

Sorry for rambling! I am writing as I think so not too much thought to grammar!

Hope this helps. I'm not sure which form your anxiety takes so can't be more specific. One thing that a lot of sufferers have though is a hypochondriac tendency - you with your heartbeat. I have believed that I have cancer, heart problems, renal problems - you name it - and of course I haven't had any of these problems. It is pure anxiety. Occasionally I catch myself starting to worry about these things now and tell myself in a loud voice not to be so silly and I actually laugh out loud at myself - believe it or not it really helps me!

Rambling again! I'll be glad to share more with you if needs be. Feel free to post or PM me if you think I can help.

Best of luck - remember it is something you can beat - I wouldn't have believed that but if I can do it I'm sure anyone can - with help!

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Thar was an interesting read as i can relate to a lot of it - I had a breakdown also after suffering from depression and anxiety for many years before - took me 3 years to recover , I was a recluse for 1 year as i suffered from agrophobia also (scarey experience) some feeling i will never be able to put in to words. But thankfully i made a full recovery , but still have a tendancy to worry and anxiety - I find myself grinding my teeth etc...... Iv never actually associated the irerigular heart beat with the anxiety though - Im begining to think it could be diet related as well as i would notice it starting to race after iv had a bag of crisps or sweets etc - iv tried to iliminate these from my diet also . Id love to be anxiety and worry free im 29 now and feel as if im just going to carry this trhough with me my whole life...

regards

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

You will probably come across something called EFT while on this site. This is supposed to be a good way of overcoming all sorts of emotional states. I must confess I haven't really looked into it yet but keep meaning to! There is an EFT manual that you can download free of charge (stands for Emotional Freedom Technique).

I think that with me it is the memory of panic attacks and anxiety that is holding me back from fully recovering. I am ok but, like you, am prone to get anxious about nothing much really!

Hope this helps - if you do decide to try the EFT let me know how you get on!

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

ps!

The diet thing - I do believe that some people are more sensitive than others to certain additives and substances. I know if I have a coffee after 4pm I wont be able to sleep till after midnight. Also the chemicals and e numbers in crisps, sweets etc. It might be worth trying to get hold of a book that tells you what to avoid - maybe someone on here can suggest one. There are also certain foods that are supposed to help with anxiety and depression, I have a good book called 'Eat for Immunity' that tells you what foods are good for conditions like this.

Don't feel like you can't ever be free of this - you just need more tools and help to deal with this.

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Catrina, Hi there,

Maybe this will help. My own daughter suffers from this too, and she was tested recently for Hyperthyroidism but was given the all clear.

I put her onto Folic Acid, 400mcg per day (as she is getting married soonand thinking of having babies anyway) and he heart and pulse have regulated, her periods have been more regular and far less painful and it is now understood that Folic Acid has a beneficial affect on the heart.

If this does not work, and if it does it will do so quickly, please think about having a Thryroid test done at your Gp's.

Your nails will grow too, and - studies have shown that it helps to prevent Senile Dementia.

You have a long way to go before that:D but, its never too early or late to start taking supplements which are tried and tested and proven to be beneficial.

Hope that helps

Gillyxxx

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Yes, Catrina, please do let us know.

Thyroid tests can in so inconclusive if you are borderline - it took the medics 19 months to diagnose my friend Jenny - and by that time she had become quite poorly.

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Hi Catrina

I also sometimes suffer from an irregular heart beat - about 6 years ago it got really bad to the extent that my husband took me to casualty one night I was so worried. Needless to say nothing was found to be wrong (you are quite right to have it checked out though). The culprit was, as has already been suggested - diet- and in particular the additive called monosodium glutamate- or MSG for short. What is it found in? Most commonly crisps (which you already identified) and chinese food, packet soups, sauces, pot noodles, that kind of thing.

Luckily these things were easily cut out of my diet so I am a lot better now.

I hope you find it is something as simple as this Catrina and you get it cleared up soon.

Love
Celtia

Hi Celtia

Thanks also for your reply X

I definitely notice a change in my heart rythem after iv had an Indian, crisps , Rice Krispies, wine, cheese - you name it. When i say to my mum that my heart is going off on one again she would ask me what have I eaten?

Its hard always trying to be so cautious of what to eat.

I hav got myself some Folic Acid like Gillyanne mentioned above and have been doing research into EFT also as Birdmentioned above.

As much information and sugestions as possaable is greatlfully appreciated as it can be very annoying. i will be doing a bit more research in to MSG now also.

One way or another I will be able to eliminate what the cause of this problem is.

Kind Regards [sm=crazyjacky_seilchensmiley1.gif]

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Hi folks I thought I would re-open this thread to hear your thoughts on this?

Iv been doing more reasearch in to Palpatations and irrigular heart beat and according to Cinease medicine the underying emotional cause for this condition is Anger and Frustration (so a friend told me who had just finished her diploma in Acupuncture).

Does this strike a cord with anybody?

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Can only recommend EFT. Due to your recent research try tapping for anger and frustration. However your anxiety builds up while worrying about speeding heart. Try tapping for that also.

RE: Irrigular Heart Beat

Homeopathically speaking, Digitalis is a good remedy if the pulse is slow, irregular or intermittent. Herbally, Crataegus is a good all-round heart support. But I would of course recommend a proper treatment with a health professional.
