Clare update
I saw Clare today following my pre-op examination. She asked me if I would put an update on here this evening. She really appreciates all your messages but hopes you understand that she does not feel up to replying at present. However, I think you will not keep a good girl down and feel sure she will be back on here within a couple of days!!!.
She looked tired and drawn. She is in a lot of pain and had had a very difficult day as she had had an MRI scan which had been very uncomfortable. Because of her back she had to lie on a special frame which meant her face was right at the top and I think she found this very claustrophobic and it also very painful to lie on. She is understandably depressed because she wants to go home and be with her family, particularly her youngest boy who she has not allowed to come to the hospital as he may be frightened by her face.. Her face looks nasty as she has a blister burn covering most of her chin and she says she has ulcers inside her mouth. Because of this she is talking through the side of her mouth.. Apparently these burns continue down her body also.
There is some good news. Her right leg which was so bad before is really good now. She can raise it well and says there is no pain so the operation has been successful in this respect.. Unfortunately her left leg which was the better one is really bad - it is numb and she is in terrible pain with it. This was why she had the MRI scan today to see what is wrong. However, whilst I was there the sister came in and said that her surgeon was coming to see her later but that nothing untoward had turned up on the scan so that it is the aftermath of the damage to her nerves which the surgeon had found were so bad they were bleeding. They will hopefully recover but that it will take a long time. She is in bed all the time except for going to the bathroom in her side ward. There is a notice on the wall that says she must be accompanied by two nurses at all times. So obviously she is not getting the exercise to help her walking and of course this is one of the main criterion for her going home. She is also on this vibrating mattress which she finds uncomfortable.
However, overall I think she is making good but very slow progress. I joked with her that she was not a good advert for me going for my laminectomy/discectomy and that it was surprising I had even turned up for my pre-op today. Not true of course. Actually I feel philosophical about the whole thing. I know I have poor odds but on the other hand I cannot carry on like this without even trying.

Hi Angela
Thanks so much for letting us know how Clare is doing. I only wish there was something I could do to help.

Hi Wend
All we can do is be there for her and keep sending messages. The great advantage of this board is how supportive everyone is and that thought keeps me going for my op.
Angela

So sad to hear what Clare has gone through 🙁 But it's good to hear she is on the mend (slowly, but surely). Thinking about you Clare
Hi everyone thank you all for your kind messages. And angela thanks for coming to see me yesterday but sorry you had to wait for me to get back and thanks for posting on my behalf. Well fusions are surely painful but me myself and my hubby and my lovely surgeon had a very long cahat yesterday now as you all know my surgery was 11 hours my surgeon made a joke and said the theatre staff was nearly falling asleep he explained more in detail of how bad my back was the nerves were bleeding I had lots of scar tissue from my two ops in feb the I asked which was infront of angela earlier to the sister was how I formed so much in little space of time but she said you can that question was more for angela because she curious. Now my left side was compressed with a large piece of disc so he said my left sided nerves were neary as bad as right. That's why im getting left leg pain because of the messing he had to do also the scan did show my nerves to be swollen . Anyway I feel a lot better in regards to left leg pain im just very sore as ive been on beach with no sun cream on my chin looks horrendous however it's better then it was. I can't walk unaided but I ask my surgeon if I could go home he said yes and that's for two reasons 1 I am used to being in pain at home 2 I have all the equipment already at home now he has said the only thing I can do is walk slow with zimmer and lie down and that's it he told my hubby to make sure that I do that. My husband asked would he give us his details for this form that he has to fill in because of my sick pay being stoped and he did straight away for him I won't be able to return to work till at least October November and my surgeon wants to skpe us in two weeks to watch me walk and to have chat then ill see him in a few more weeks. All in all im feeling a bit better I just can't wait to see my little boy. And I have a copy of xray it's weird seeing screws in my spine but at least them horrible discs have gone . Sorry for essay love as always clare
Morning Clare,
Are they letting you home today? I have to say I don't think I start to relax and repair until I have the comfort of my own bed, hospital beds suck. I had a sort of air bed after my fusion and it was awful, but supposedly better for my back!
I bet you can't wait to see your son and have a big, gentle hug 🙂
Must go as I have someone coming in half an hour. Will catch up soon.
Take care,
Love Wend xxxxxx
Dear Yogi,
I read your updates avidly, and want to send you all my good wishes and lots of healing reiki for a swift recovery xxxxx
That is great news about coming home and it has obviously given you a big boost. When you asked me to update on here you probably noticed that I said you can't keep a good girl down and I was sure you would be back in a couple of days. What has news of you going home done for you - you are back in one day. Congratulations.
love Angela
Thanks angela xx wend I have been on the air mattress its not nice at alk. Ive been failed by physio but as my surgeon said I was in this amount of pain ar home and I have all the equipment the only thing is my left leg I can't even take two steps so it's a matter of one day at a time xx
Still thinking of you, wishing you well and hope you have a relatively uneventful recovery.
Love, Light and Healing to you Clare.
thank you carolineN
well what can i say first night home was lovely to be with the kids,
sleeping wise well me and hubby has had to swap sides as i had to crawl out of bed while hubby was downstairs as my little boy as asleep beside me but my side is against the wall i tried to shout my hubby eventually he came up and helped me go to the loo then we decided it was a intelligent idea to swap sides. my left leg is still numb i can't walk at all without aid i use comode and only go upstairs when im ready for bed which my hubby helps me up. as i said physio failed me to go home from hospital but as i have the aids here and social care is already in the process of putting another rail up my surgeon was happy for me also he trusts me not to do anything besides walk a little and rest which i have been doing. i just hope i sleep better tonight. im still in pain and very sore on front which hospital gave me cream for, district nurse is coming tomorrow to look at chin to be honest there's not much to do or say it's just needs to heal, i have a large lump in breast and very sore so she needs to check that as well it's all just from position. im looking forward to the future now and optimistic that this fusion has solved my problems but my surgeon did say ill never be 100% but as long as i can live a little that will do me he is phoning me in a couple of weeks and asked if i had skpe so he can see my walking progress and chin because i want be seeing him in follow up clinic till 6-8 weeks. my only wish is that i can mobilise without zimmer in home also my hubby having to dress me and put me on comode is stressing but one step at a time like my surgeon said my nerves were in a right mess he could not believe how bad it actually was,
anyway im gonna be as positive as possible me and hubby already making plans.
well i hope you are all ok and not in too much pain.
love clare xxxxxxxxxxxxx
