Hi all,
I had read some good reviews of the combined supplements Glucosamine, chondroitin,MSM for people with joint pains. There were no reported side effects that I could find when I researched it so I thought I would try it as I get a few achy joints.
I began to take them 2 a day last week and at first felt no effect but after a few days I noticed a strange bruised feeling in one ankle. There was no sign of bruising but the pain got worse.:(
I wondered if it was the tablets so I have stopped taking them and the pain has gone.
These tablets are supposed to ease painful joints and I can't find any accounts of anyone else suffering side effects.
I suppose it may have been coincidence so I may try them again at a later date but I wondered if anyone here had tried them, and if so how they got on?

I take them and it seems fine. I used to take glucosmaine with collagen but am trying these instead. Having been taken them that long though, so will look at for side effects.

I have taken glucosamine and so have quite a few people I know - we have all had only positive results from it!

Another fan here! I think it takes a few weeks or so before you start to feel any different though so a few days is fairly quick if they are the cause of your pain? How about asking your local Pharmacist? It might just be coincidence that this pain has started at the time you have started taking these.

Love and light

There aren't many studies that provide conclusive evidence that Glucosamine and Chondroiton work to either prevent joint pain or help the body rebuild cartilage..

But the fact that sales for the products have reached almost 1 billion pounds in the USA suggests that something is going on..

I think the general consensus is that because there are no known side effects it may be worth taking them while we wait for the proof..

I took them as a combined supplement while training as a competitive gymnast and found that they were brilliant..

Placebo? Who cares... As long as the pain went away I was happy...

There are a few studies that sugget that they are more effective than a placebo but many of these studies have been criticised for their methodology..

You should not take Glucosamine if you have any intollerance or allergic reaction to Shellfish maybe you have an intollerance you are not aware of.

I think there must be some studies that are acceptable to the medical fraternity, because my rheumatologist told me to take glucosamine/chondroitin. I'm pretty sure a conventional doctor wouldn't suggest taking a supplement unless there was good evidence (conducted according to the rituals of the Church of Science, in other words) of their benefit.

Well for the last two weeks I have been trying these tablets again but for the last few days I have been experiencing intense itching on my hands and feet.I am now thinking I may be allergic to these tablets. Stopped taking them again and hoping this itching will stop.

I have posted a story which came out locally where a man died of liver damage and his sister reckons it was possibly linked to taking Glucosamine

I took glucosamine/chondroitin with Aloe Vera for several years after rupturing the ACL in my knee. After a few months I found it stopped my knee from aching. After a about a year I stopped taking them as I could not get them easily and the pain came back, at which point I tried harder to find the same supplement again! I have not taken them for several years now, for some reason my knee does not ache any more, but i did take them without side effects for about 3 or 4 years.

Vets are also seem happy for glucosamine/chondroitin to be given to animals with joint problems.
