I was with a friend yesterday who has just spent a considerable amount of money at an expensive clinic in London, having tests on a rash that has appeared on his scalp, back, chest and thighs. A biopsy was taken from his scalp, where the rash is most evident. The consultant has now told him he has a allergy to yeast, but that more tests will be needed to find out which yeast. As he cannot afford any more tests at the moment, the consultant suggested that he avoid beer.......... my friend is now at a loss as to what to do to alleviate the 'itch'. The consultant told him not to take anti-histamines.

He has the occasional glass of red wine at the weekends, but doesn't drink beer (!). The rash does get worse when he gets 'stressed' (he is self employed and travels around Europe for a living).

I've suggested he try and see either a homeopath or medical herbalist - any other suggestions meantime?

Hi Jabba,

I would look at ways of treating the stress and I think he could benefit from a combination of treatments. But I think he needs to be careful that too many interventions may cause further stresses.

As a massage therapist, I would start by recommending a course of massage, backed with exercise.

HTH,
Myarka.

He loves massage, but his problem with that has been that because he tours Europe (he is off to Estonia today - Budapest on Thursday - Latvia on Sunday.....) he is never anywhere long enough to establish a pattern - plus, he has to go on the recommendations of the various concierges at the hotels he stays in for therapists and is fed up with being offered 'extras' - this causes him more stress!! I think he is after some dietary ideas at the minute, and is going to try avoiding bread for the next two weeks - which won't be easy!

If he wants to avoid the "extras" side when travelling, he cold try Turkish massage?

For breads, Soda bread is yeast free.

If yeast is a problem, then all breads except soda bread, as Myarka mentioned, will cause problems. Wine and beer are not good, but gin and vodka are OK. Marmite is made from yeast and so are many savoury stock cubes and gravy inredients. Mushroms, dried fruits, blue cheeses and any milk products may make it worse but could be checked.

While your friend travels so widely it will be difficult to avoid these ingredients sometimes, but each time he eats yeast it will trigger the reaction and make it worse. He needs to boost his immune system by eating wholefoods.

I would suggest his gut bacteria are struggling to cope too and a good probiotic would help to restore balance - 60 billion Lactobacillus acidophilus GG ( a variety which does not need refrigeration) and Bifidobacteria would usually be needed daily, taken away from food, preferably last thing at night. In view of the fact he is travelling so extensively and his food sources will be eratic, a multivitamin/multimineral with a high B vitamin content would be supportive of his compromised immune system (not able to cope with fighting off the yeast). Fish oil or flaxseed oil would also help reduce the inflammatory load.

As far as possible he should choose as many fresh foods as possible, plenty of salads and vegetables, not too much meat, but oily fish are good - Atlantic salmon, herring, mackerel and sardines. Oats can be soothing, and could be good with plain bioyoghurt for breakfast. Fresh garlic and onions may be helpful to the immune system.
For topical use, aloe vera juice smoothed on can be helpful as it is antifungal, and probably good taken internally too. I would also suggest [DLMURL="https://www.yourhealthfoodstore.co.uk/details.php/p2811_biocare_oxypro_liquid.html"]this product [/DLMURL]to use as a wash as it has antifungal properties. Olive Leaf Extract might be helpful too, available from here, as I would suspect he could be suffering from an overgrowth of fungus in his gut - he could ring them and ask to speak to their nutrition consultant.

This has obviously taken a while to develop and will not be got rid of in 5 minutes. He really would benefit from seeing a Nutritional Therapist who will be able to help him through the process and give him an individualised programme to help him through the process. See the BANT website for a registered practitioner or Directory on HP.

Wishing him all the best

Also, avoid sugars also! Mushrooms and grapes also have yeast in them I believe.

First time I find such a topic!
I also have yeast allergy, together with gluten allergy. But I have no rash. I have gut and nervous symptoms. I feel as if I had drank 10 cups of coffee...

This lasts 2 days. I discovered this yeast allergy because I reacted to gluten-free bread...

I know I must avoid beer, but what's the problem with wine?
And what's the problem with mushrooms, dry fruit or grapes?

I do not eat stock cubes or veggie patés... and I know I lack of B vitamins, so I take some pills.

This is very true I had to get rid of fungus (candida) and this all went away thanks to homoeopathy (fungus dilutions). I also used with a real success the Dr Clark cure (to get rid of worms). I also got rid of sugar craving... (sign of worms or virus).

I started an homeo treatment last month, yeast dilutions, 30ch, then 27, 25, 22.

I also had a treatment for gluten allergy, but I am not sure it worked out.

Mushrooms are a fungus, and generally the consensus is that folk who have problems with yeasts also have problems with mushrooms. Dried fruit has lots of yeasts on its surface (plus because it's high in sugar it has a ready-made supply of nutrients for the yeast to breed!). Grapes have a mould on their surface - it's the bloom that you see - so, ditto, re the yeast+moulds avoidance above.

This is very interesting. Another HP member (Janet or Fadette?) also used homoeopathy successfully. Which makes me think about contacting a homoeopath myself...

I also used with a real success the Dr Clark cure (to get rid of worms).

That woman frightens me! I've not had the courage to look at her methods - but I think there is a thread/s here devoted to her stuff. I might tentatively have a look.

Thanks for sharing your experiences - they've given me a lot to think about.

So, yeast is a fungus?
But I can eat leavened bread!

I did a colonic hydrotherapy, and the naturopath advised me for this vermifuge cure. She tested that it would do me good with kinesiology. I had to double the lenght of the cure! Since then, I have a very flat belly. I was very impressed by 2 things:
- I came to be nearly disgusted by sugar...
- I could no more finish my meals! I had to adapt to a new lessen appetite...

No, yeasts aren't fungi. But it seems to be the case that people who are allergic or intolerant to yeast are often also allergic/intolerant of fungi. So, in the short-term they are encouraged to also remove fungi from their diets - at least on a trial basis.

Ooh, I think know someone (Janet - who is posting in a Candida thread) who will be very interested to hear more about this! Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi Fran

Do you mean with the zapper or frequency generator? Or a herbal cleanse? 🙂

A herbal cleanse.

I remember there was clove, male fern, a sort of artemisia, and black walnut...
I really felt it was effective.
I did it after colonic hydrotherapy, and the plants were the most efficient part of the treatment.

Yes Frans I'm interested in getting an unbloated tummy - so what is and where could I get this product you talk about.

My homeopath prescribed borax but she is interested in hearing what my results of the stool test are as this may just make a whole difference to the next remedy she prescribed.

I did not use ornithine nor arginine. I did not use a zapper, just the parasite cleanse. I think it is very important for everybody. Candida should also be looked for. I got rid of it, never came back!

Borax? What for? I just know it was used as a preservative... I would not use borax, as it has been proved to be an allergen (irritating).
It can cause headache and nausea.
