Thanks for the welcome WackyJacky - re: cancer - I never imagined I could be so strong until I was faced with the disease everyone dreads getting. Once I'd completed my chemo I decided to face other issues in my life through counselling and successfully dealt with them. Finally the only thing left was the solpadeine. As someone said in an earlier post it really helped to read this board from day one and gave me the strength to keep going. The only way for me was cold-turkey and sometimes the withdrawal symptoms wanted to make me run and get the solps but I held out! Now I can't imagine ever going back - I also have more money!!

FlyingScot - well done, you're doing great, keep going! - I completely understand about the paracetemol - at first I didn't even want to take those worrying that I would get sucked into those, but it didn't happen. I usually try everything else first - drink water, distract myself, temple massage, if after a few hours nothing is working and I can't take it anymore then I take a couple. I can't actually remember the last time I took any though.

Good luck everyone

238 days solpadeine free 🙂

A massive thank you.......xxx

Hello all,

First time post for me on hear so please be gentle lol. Firstly i would like to say a huge thankyou for everyone who has posted or involved with this site. I shall give a brief story of what, how and when which hopefully will help others after me.

I am fast approaching my 40th birthday been taking these horrible things for the best part of 15 years. Same old story migraine, back pain to start before you know it 10 years have past and over the last few years on 4-12 a day. Job stress and everything else just makes it worse. Everywhere you go, have i got enough..? where can i get some, wake up feel crap, go to bed feel crap and so it continues. As i write this i can remember all the posts i have read and they are so similar it is frightening. FINDING THIS SITE HAS GIVEN ME THE COURAGE TO STOP THAT IS A FACT :):) I had my last solpadeine on monday 20 june after visting the docs about something else, i plucked up the courage and told her, she said best way is to stop and if you can take the next week which will be very hard. Thanks to you guys i was prepared for all the symptoms... I have to be honest, i would say have quite a high pain threshold but it relly did put me through it with all the predicted problems, I feel like i have been to Hell stared the Devil in the Face and come back better and stronger than ever. It is now Sat 25th June, Still not over it by any means, Fuzzy head, Dizzyness, cramps etc i truely believe the worst is over and not once had a need to take these horrible horrible things.

Sorry if some of this doesn't make sense but after only 5 days or so i am still not quite with it lol. I just had to post the moment i felt well enough.

Once again i truely cannot thank you all enough and i do mean all...!!!! HOPEFULLY MY LIFE IS BACK AND CAN START LIVING IT....

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hey Guys

thanks for all the lovely welcomes - I'm still clean - day 269 is today

the best feeling in the world is suddenly remembering (it happened today) that I used to be addicted - but I'm not now and am never going back!

Well done all you who are still fighting - you can do it, get through the early days and take it one day at a time (the first few days I took it one hour at a time)

Update (16 weeks)

Hi everyone.

Its been a long time since i've been on, so welcome to everyone that i havent spoken to before!
First of all, i'm chuffed to say that i've been off these wee blighters for about 16 weeks now.
I have had a few wee wobbles along the way and had to take the occassional paracetemol etc, nothing major though.
Been reading through some of the latest posts, and i agree that this website / posts if fantastic for motivation etc, it's great to be able to talk to someone that "understands".

Keep up the good work and i'll try and post again soon.
Take care
FS

Went into my wardrobe yesterday to send old clothes to a charity shop & in a suit not worn for years was a pack of 4 "solps".
I crushed them prior to dumping in rubbish bins.
They brought a shiver to my spine.
Two and a quarter years now.
Crazy dave.

Hi everyone,
I am a new member of your forum and have been so inspired by your stories.
I have been a solp user for about ten years, and also drink fairly heavily. Although I can stop drinking fairly easily, I cannot stop taking solps. I take four doses a day (8 tablets) but combined with the alcohol it is pretty terrible. I am a teacher and have two university age children living at home. I have a very stressful marriage. I say that not as an excuse, but so that you can understand that I use the solps as a kind of crutch to take away the stress for a while. I really need to stop before it kills me. The strange thing is that no one I know realizes what a state I am in because I handle everything so well. My children are very happy and I am very good at my job.
I have no support from my husband, so I cannot go cold turkey. I think I should come off gradually . What do you think

Hello
I guess I didn't seem a worthy case for discussion. I'm sorry if I sounded pompous or boring. I hoped you might understand and be able to offer advice. II really feel at the end of my tether now.

Hi there Chris im sorry that no one was around to respond to you, i know how that feels at times of need. Me personaly i was away in Germany so not been on the internet as much. Getting back to the more serious stuff hun i think coming of the solps gradually sounds like a plan, although its been a while and you have prop started on your reducion by now hopefully how is it going? jaxxx

Thank you so much for replying. It means more than you can imagine. I have not had the courage to start anything yet. I have a lot of problems which all contribute, and solpadeine helps me get through. Although I know I must stop, I don't have anything else to help me get by. I think I am going to be the one case on your forum that fails. All the stories have been so positive, and I am ashamed. That's all I can say for now.

Hi Chris!

I feel awful that you haven't had a greater response to your post - I'm afraid I tend to skip the threads which don't really apply to me, and I shouldn't because sometimes any support is better than none. I'm sure you will get the advice of others here who have experience of your problems - and no, you did not come across as pompous at all 🙂

Sometimes posts seem to slip under the radar - please don't give up on us yet!

Hiya Chris for a lot of people a good hard positive front is all they have its what they know and how they get by in life, sometimes its also easier to be positive for others and not for one, self so please dont feel that you are the only person in a negative place, its where we all start from. A small start is way better then nothing and you have taken that start by coming here if nothing else you will see that you are not alone with your addiction. In my opinion what you need now is that boost of confidence to start some sort of reduction or to find a way forward for you. Sometimes talking about it helps heaps. Do you think it might be a good idea if you were to stop drinking whilst you are trying to combat the solps? i say thsi for the reason that you might substitute one for the other just a thought. please keep in touch and chat all you like il make sure im around for you. jaxx
