It's all gone quiet on here! When I was a member here previously this forum was always active. It was a mine of information and ideas. The reason I stopped coming on here was because I was working with one sports team doing one discipline and it became less relevant to me. When I took the decision to leave sport and expand on my complementary therapies this was one of the first places I headed.
Any theories on why it's now so quiet on here? I'm still working in my full time job at the moment, but all my available massage slots are booked up 3 weeks in advance! It's busier now than when I tried to make a go of it 8 years ago. I thought it was because therapies are becoming more popular, but maybe it's just that there's less therapists around... Thoughts?
I am also on another forum (a spiritual one), which is also fairly inactive from what it was. I have asked the same question and the reply came back as being due to the transferring over to other social medias e.g. facebook etc. Not sure how true that is.
It can often depend on how popular the current active topic is. As you can see, it is not all about therapies.
I like to talk about the science behind the therapies etc. Unfortunately I find that few are willing to go there. If one person has a working knowledge of their own expertise they tend to stay within that area where they are most comfortable. It is surprising how recent scientific discoveries can been seen to have parallels with traditional therapies or "spiritual" understandings. To someone who's mind is not yet been set by man's traditional teachings the future is absolutely golden, once they can learn to think outside the box. But I do believe that you have to get involved in open minded discussion to get there.
More than happy to talk about science behind therapies. 🙂
I think there are two main reasons for the community going quieter in recent years.
1) the focus of people has moved to social media
2) the complementary therapy business is a hard business in times where the economy has struggled. People are spending less on looking after themselves.
Another reason, for some therapies that include products, e.g. homeopathy, and aromatherapy etc. could be tighter regulations requiring more evidence based 'proof' of efficacy, otherwise products based on such things cannot be as readily sold.
Wish you happy

.
As am I.
I don't come on here as much as I did. I spend less time on line anyway. And I use things like Facebook twitter and Linkedin to promote my business. That takes priority over 'discussion' forums which all too often are not about discussion at all. Although this is much friendlier than pharmacy forums!! 🙂

I find it much friendlier here than any other forum! Which is a large part of why I keep coming back.
Well I'm happy to talk about anything you like, when not at work!

OK then - what are your particular interests!
I have also been away from HP for a good while but nice to see some familiar names and looking forward to chatting with old and new. Any takers?
I do feel that the activity on this forum may gather up speed if we had a chat room. Anyone agree?
Is that facility possible?
It's been discussed before and no, there is no 'chat room' facility. It's also not a simple thing to moderate.
I think that discussions are just as good as any chat... and you have time to actually think about what you're saying before you post. 😉
Ah can't you remember, I actually started a 'just chat' post on here many moons ago and it went on for a good long time!

I was wondering what you meant! Care to start one up again?
No problem with having a chat thread if you want one. 🙂
