the majority of my Christmas decorations down today as i was getting a tad fed up with them cluttering up the living room!

All that remains is a wall hanging tree, its been a tradition of mine for some years now to take them down on NYE, but couldn't wait until tomorrow.:o Usually i feel sad when i have to take them down, but this time, boy am i glad to get rid!

Has anyone else taken theirs down?

Warmest wishes- calla lily x

i am ready to take mine down being holding off all day, i have taken down the cards which are ready to recycle, but i think the rest will start to come down in the next day or so, i think i said in the begining of december that i could not get into christmas like normal and i was right maybe i am getting older but so many people have said the same this year so maybe what we all are sick of is the money making that some are doing, i feel the meaning has gone, all that work and expense, maybe next year i need to look at things a it different, maybe we need to do more for others,

Why are you all taking your decorations down? Its not time yet. Twelfth night is the time to take them down. 6th January.

My tree is still twinkling away and my neighbours have their outside lights all aglow.

I don't think decorations clutter the place up. I love them. I'm not religious but I do think people have forgotten the meaning of Christmas. It has become far too commercialised.

Of course, it is not very nice if you haven't had a happy time and my thoughts go to you Fleur and anyone else in this situation. Unfortunately Christmas is not a happy time for everyone.

Happy New Year to you all!

Maggie

As much as i love Christmas decorations mog, ( some of mine went up on the 30th, the rest the day after- again another tradition in my house) I'm not one for waiting until Twelfth night to take them down as i've got a quirk of not having decorations see in the New Year.:o:)

Glad its not just me who's taken down the decs, its up in the loft tomorrow to pack them all away as my trees are sitting on my landing at the moment!

Warmest wishes- calla lily x

Perhaps you put them up too early.

I don't take mine down till 1st January but I can't wait to get them down then. I hate it when I see houses with decs up still in February.

Putting them up early is a factor orangeblossom, coupled with once Christmas day is over, for me the decorations serve no more purpose. As a child my mum waited until the 13th Dec, and i hated it, hence my early bird antics!:o

I took mine down too.... I decided that I wanted to have a major blitz of the house and cleaned everything and was easier just to take it all down rather than clean round it! Was just the right time this year I reckon!

Mine are down too, I took mine down 27th, to me once Christmas is over I want to start clearing up. Although I love Christmas, I don't like my decorations up into the New Year. Like flowingflower, I wanted to have a major cleaning blitz (very early spring clean!!)

I have always taken mine down on New Years Day because I am sick to death of them by then and because it it the easiest day, I know my husband will be with me to help and the children are still off school to help pack them away. I was always the first where I live, but now it seems the norm. There are a few who go to twelth night but not that many anymore, I suppose it's another dying tradition.

well i did take mine down today , did not do any cleaning this morning and then started after lunch,my son had a clear up in his room too, so you can guess at how many bags to take to the tip to recycle, plus a few bags for me to take to the charity shop including from me a old word processor remember them. house looks lovely an clean, i usually do it on new years day but this year three of us were ill so i thought get cleaned up and start new year fresh

My tree came down today, I had hoped to get a few more days out of it. It was a gorgeous & big real tree but just lately it lost its freshness and started to whiff a bit!!!

Thats the best reason to take it down a bit early!

I'm with mog on this one - our tree and decorations went up on Christmas Eve and will come down on Twelfth Night. The Twelve Days of Christmas.
Yes, I know, I'm a boring old traditionalist...

Mine haven't come down yet (decorations!). But my poor little Christmas tree is looking a little worse for wear. A lot of the tree decorations have fallen off; some have been re-placed by my 6 year old daughter but have ended up all in one spot, which has caused a weight shift. So the Star at the top looks as if it has had too much Christmas sherry and is leaning dangerously to the left. But the lights are still twinkling at an epileptic seizure inducing speed!

Time to take it all down this evening methinks!
