For me the likes of Anthony Seldon telling us all how easy it is to live a good and easy life is somewhat frustrating. I mean just look at one of his paragraphs...

I need to live or at least spend time by water. It could be a pond, a river, a lake or the sea. If I am cut off from water for long times, I begin to feel miserable. We are so lucky to have a house by the sea in Brighton and to be able to hear the waves crashing on the beach as we fall asleep. At Wellington College, we have several lakes, and a small pond in our own garden.

Ah now let us just take him away from his house by the sea in Brighton and plonk him in the middle of noisy run down surburbia and tell him not to be miserable and just drink more water :012:He also cutely sticks in a bit about 'his book' it all makes me totally nauseous :004:

No disrespect to you Reikiangel :033: obviously a lot of people like this kind of thing, I just
look much deeper and have a different perspective on it.

I think Anthony Seldon has hit many nails on the head. Every word he says resonates with me and with what I have learned over the past 15 years. I think the students at Wellington College are very lucky to have such an enlightened headmaster.
Jeannie, no disrespect to you, but it's not a case of 'liking' this sort of thing but of realising that it 'works'. I have no doubt that if Anthony Seldon were unable to live by water he would soon adapt and would be happy wherever he is. I really don't understand why you are always so dismissive of 'this sort of thing' (you often say that it makes you feel sick) when you have told us many times that you wish you could live without being full of fear and worry and anxiety. Whenever something like this crops up and it appears that here is someone living a happy life, you disparage them and their philosophy. At the very least, why not try being happy for someone who has learned to enjoy their life instead of wanting to make him miserable.
And I think it's no coincidence that he does yoga.....

It took him a long time to find out what really matters. Turning one's mind to the present and away from one's own self-centred thoughts... so hard to do but the world would be a far happier place if we could all follow this advice. x

Actually, I also can resonate with Anthony when he writes he likes to live and spend time near water. Me too, and very much so. That's why I chose to live in Portsmouth, really near the sea. Lovely-jubbly. And when I go on holiday it's generally to where water is, be it the coast, lochs in Scotland, rivers, waterfalls etc.. It makes me happy and that's what matters. You won't find me putting up with living in a noisy and busy suburbia. Never, ever ......

Oh and thanks for posting the link Reikiangel. I found it so uplifting. Lots for me to think about.

Ha I doubt it...Strange how it is always the 'I'm alright Jack' people like Anthony Seldon who publish these things (and get paid for doing so) Telling us we should be happy with our lot by following simple thoughts, no matter how crap a persons life may be or how impossible for many to change or choose where they may live. I do live with anxiety and have worries, but I am a very deep thinker and unfortunatly Anthony Seldons philosophy is (for me) way to simplistic. Oh and Sunanda I never said that I wanted to make him miserable! Lucky him he is fit enough to stand on his own head every morning. :032:

Well, I don't see Anthony Seldon as an 'I'm alright Jack' person at all and I doubt that he would have been paid for this by the BBC. Most people who have found contentment are only too happy to share with other people, to try to show them that they can choose to be happy.

Ah now let us just take him away from his house by the sea in Brighton and plonk him in the middle of noisy run down surburbia and tell him not to be miserable and just drink more water

How are we to interpret this, Jeannie, if not that you want Anthony Seldon to be miserable.

Lucky him he is fit enough to stand on his own head every morning.

There are probably people on HP thinking 'Lucky Jeannie, she seems to go on a lot of foreign holidays.'
IMVHO it's all about being grateful for the small stuff.....And it's never impossible to change the way we see the world.

Crikey Sunanda you have an uncanny knack of making thinks personal.

Once again misconscrued, did I say I want to take him away from his blissful life? No, I was trying to make the point that IF, he were not speaking from the comfortable life he is living and was living in the middle of nosiy run down surburbia, would he then be writing such books and telling us how simple everything is. I really don't think so because he is definitely from the 'I'm alright Jack' brigade. But sunanda and anyone else who wishes feel free just attack me because I am voicing an opinion that differs from yours.
