Deleted on second thoughts. I'm too angry & upset and don't wish to spread bad feelings.
One of those threads that go around in circles isn't it. Now the planned destruction of windows and of equipment inside banks is also fine. Sometimes a rational viewpoint is to see both sides, and all facts. I guess this means that you can't be wearing a patch over or be blind in one (the Right?) eye. Personally I find it a total waste of time to read from people who see how one side acted wrongly, not the other, when small elements of both were at fault. Where's truth if the whole isn't admitted? 'T'aint truth - it's clear bias.

I agree that there were elements within the ranks of the demonstrators who were violent yobs just out to cause trouble. What I object to is that some of them seem to have joined the police too.

I think the name for this kind of writing is hyperbole. For God's sake, V, where has anyone said that this kind of behaviour is 'fine'? I could equally say that it would appear from your posts that police brutality meted out to innocent bystanders is 'fine' and you wouldn't like that, or agree with it.

If it's such a waste of time to read our views and comments, then I suggest you stop logging on to HP or stick to the football thread.
Don't you find it interesting that we get to see images of these masked 'mob' members flanked by the press on one side and rows of police watching on the other - as they smash windows and property - totally unchallenged?... wot's that about!
Where as, some bloke walking home with his hands in his pockets has to be attacked and sent crashing to the ground - presumeably for strolling in threatening manner in a built up area...

I saw a blog - unfortunately, can't remember where so I can't post a link - that suggested the police deliberately allowed the RBS to be attacked, on the grounds that it would be seen as a legitimate target by Daily Mail-reading types. In the same way that at the May Day "riot" a few years ago, they were allowed free rein to attack McDonald's. The suggestion was that it was no coincidence that police did nothing to prevent either attack.

- Exactly my point Nick, I was struck by the way it was almost set up with all the press on one side and police looking on - on the other... contrived ... (is that the right word?:o)

Interesting to see the word "our" in there. 🙂 There are, in any case, untold views and comments on HP, some more worthy of reading than others. And various threads. And even, I have to say, a kind of slow sine wave of HP on the whole being more or less deep and interesting over time. Fourthly, the Current Affairs forum was instigated in the first place from the knowledge that views will get more polarised here than is desired elsewhere on HP. Hope you have a better day tomorrow?

Yep, I was pretty amazed also, Roger, to see a huge semi-circle of camera-wielding journalists appearing to outnumber what you could see of the true property-destroying 'mob' (as it was called here earlier). But I'd venture a guess that it was the masked ones who had tipped off journalists, or that journalists were just good at getting to the core of the action. Or maybe my conspiriology credentials are failing me? 😮

In the Daily Mail!!! Well, well, well. 🙂
A Met police officer boasted on Facebook that he was going to "bash some long-haired hippies" at the G20 protests...

Wearing a uniform doesn't mean you can't be a yob.
I'm surprised that I managed to find this thread but thought that I would post here, rather than start a new thread, about the news that there will be no police prosecuted following the death of Ian Tomlinson on 1st April last year. I must say that I am totally unsurprised by this and also can understand the frustration felt by Ian Tomlinson's family. As far as I can see, Ian Tomlinson died as a result of an unprovoked assault. Any member of the public caught on video assaulting someone in this way would surely have been prosecuted, whether or not there was disagreement about the post mortems. British justice seems to have become an oxymoron.
Unfortunately, as in all cases that involve the Police, you will only get one side of the story from the media. The only footage that has been released is at the point where he was pushed and then when he collapsed with Police officers trying to save his life.
The press say that he was making his way home. From the small bit of footage available he does not appear to be in much of a hurry. Firstly if were on my way home I would avoid a riot at all costs. If I found myself in the middle of one then I would try and get out as quick as it starts. I am sure I will get slated for my comments, I just think that there is more to this.
You have a right to your opinion, Aspire, so I would doubt if anyone here on HP would 'slate' you. However, you might find a few people here who disagree with your take on the events.
Well as I see it no one on HP 'knows' all the information surrounding the incident either before, during or after. Also as I understand from the all knowing (and sensationalist) media not even the medical experts could agree on a cause of death so to definately say that the push killed Ian Tomlinson is clearly wrong. Maybe we should just let these so called protesters smash up our cities and destroy our way of life.

Yep, maybe we should.
