For the past 15 years, global warming has stopped. Since 1850 temps have only risen 0.8 degrees by their own account.

I'm not saying don't halt greenhouse gases eventually, but the widespread panic is unfounded. We need research and development to find alternatives to oil and gas that will be economic. Once we find a viable alternative, oil and gas will disappear on their own. We don't need governments forcing ridiculous standards on businesses and causing huge increases in electric, gas, and transportation charges when we are already in a recession.

For the past 15 years, global warming has stopped.

I didn't want to get in to this again with you, Ace, as I know ultimately it's a waste of my time, but just for the record...

For January–August 2010, the global combined land and ocean surface temperature of 58.5 F (14.7 C) tied with 1998 as the warmest January–August period on record. This value is 1.21 F (0.67 C) above the 20th century average.

The combined global land and ocean surface temperature for August 2010 was the third warmest on record at 61.2 F (16.2 C), which is 1.08 F (0.60 C) above the 20th century average of 60.1 F (15.6 C). August 1998 is the warmest August on record and 2009 is the second warmest….

The combined global land and ocean average surface temperature for June–August 2010 was the second warmest on record, behind 1998, at 61.3 F (16.2 C), which is 1.15 F (0.64 C) above the 20th century average of 60.1 F (15.6 C).

The June–August worldwide land surface temperature was 1.80 F (1.00 C) above the 20th century average of 56.9 F (13.8 C) — the warmest June–August on record, surpassing the previous record of 1.66 F (0.92 C) set in 1998.

We conclude that global temperature continued to rise rapidly in the past decade and there has been no reduction in the global warming trend of 0.15-0.20°C/decade that began in the late 1970s.

If making money is more important than the climate, then you're right.

Going by past experience you won't follow the links, Ace, and you won't even consider the counter argument, but for anyone who's really interested I thought I'd chip in.

Meanwhile, in Cancun, during the climate summit, temperatures in Cancun reached an 100 year LOW! Oh, the irony. Same thing happened in Copenhagen where they had snow and very chilly temps. http://theweek.com/article/index/210181/irony-alert-the-unusually-chilly-global-warming-summit

Your movement lost all respect when you had to change the name from "global warming" to "climate change". The problem with climate change is it encompasses all weather. You tell me what weather I would need to see to disprove global warming, and there is nothing, and that's the problem. If it snows or is very cold, it's global warming, if it's very hot, global warming, tons of rain, global warming, very dry, global warming. What the heck isn't global warming to you people?

With the exception of El Nino in 1998, temps have been flat.

How am I supposed to believe global warming is not a religion when global warming almarists opened their ceremony in Cancun by praying to a Mayan moon goddess. As Chavez said in Copenhagen, this is an attack on capitalism more than anything and an attempt at income redistribution. That's why there was little discussion of actual science at Copenhagen, and it is why poor countries are so ready to join in...they expect free money...which they won't use to "go green."

It may still be the 3rd warmest year on record, but the dire predictions of the world about to end and all that garbage slowly is going out the window as prediction after prediction fails. CO2 may effect the environment, but I believe there are other factors far stronger than that that influence temperatures, so our efforts could be somewhat in vain.

I would say foisting your global warming religion on everyone is more important that feeding the hungry, helping those in poverty, giving medical assistance to those with AIDS in Africa or other similar diseases, infrastructure to prevent against weather damages in poorer countries...just remember, you are choosing to spend billions on what might happen 1,000 years from now rather than on these immediate needs.

How is climateprogress a non-biased link? The article I linked came after your article, so temps have been adjusted downward since your article was written.

And now former IPCC scientists saying there is no consensus on global warming. NASA now saying that they may have exaggerated the effects of CO2 on global warming.

You're giving me way too much credit there, Ace. Not only did I not change the name, I didn't start the 'movement'!

They didn't even bother to tell me it had become a movement. I just thought it was a lot of intelligent and well qualified people witnessing a phenomenon and reporting on it.

It doesn't bother me if you do think it's a religion, Ace. I am bemused by the idea though.

Oxfam America indicated that by 2015 an average of 375 million people will be touched by humanitarian disasters whose severity is fueled by climate change. This represents a 50-percent increase over the amount of people affected in years past

Yeah, according to the Daily Mail. 🙂

I've allowed myself to get sucked into this debate again! Deja Vu! 😮
Anyway, if you don't look at the link, Ace, I shall console myself by thinking that someone else might.

All the best.

American progress is a far left organization.....not mainstream media. But anyway, look up Maurice Strong. He was the founder of the global warming movement back in 1987. He believed in one world bank (World Conservation Bank), perhaps a step to a one world government. He was heavily involved in the United Nations, and fled when he was accused of being involved in the UN Oil for Food Scandal. He was found in China in 2006, where he made money off selling carbon credits, all while he was actually helping pollute the environment there. Global warming is about money and control of the planet and of your lives...it's not about actualy saving the planet.

Sorry, but it's the most appropriate response I can think of. That and gratitude that I have been given my life to live and not somebody else's.

Ace88, I'm not going to argue with you, because your position is ideological, not factual. If the Daily Mail (which by the way is somewhat ridiculed in this country for its alarmist and way-out right-wing ideas) had said that manmade climate change WAS happennig, then you'd have quoted some other paper. America has built a lifestyle on massive consumption of oil for your big cars, internal flights, gigantic worldwide armed forces, air conditioning and heating, etc etc. The changes in lifestyle you will have to make are so huge that you refuse to face up to them. The longer you leave it, the worse it will be for your children or grandchildren who finally have to deal with this reality. Do you really want to be cursed by your own descendants?

What reality? The climate changes all the time. There is no consensus that the seas are going to rise and drown us all, or that we will be fried to death in heat. Some say less people die in heat and crops grow better. There is no question we should look into alternative fuel sources, but you have to make them economic. So far, the green people have failed. They promise all these green jobs which turn out not be permanent...green initatives cost way more jobs than the create. Raising gas, oil, and electric prices devastes economies, because all goods have to be transported...there are plenty of ways to clean up the environment besides oil.

I didn't see this thread at the time, but:

... Hm. How many participants to this thread have a dog or dogs, one or more cats, or any kind of pet? Come on, hands up! 🙂 My question is relevant. 🙂

Well I have 2 cats, and even though we live virtually opposite Tesco, they will insist on taking the car. That's bad enough in itself... but to go separately? Disgraceful.

Lol!

Looking forward to hearing the pet issue. And feeling preemptively guilty, just in case!

Before V says anything that my cats are part of the local eco system and they kill (and eat) the mice and rats that try to make home in my home. I consider this a holistic way of pest control - no sticking poisons down!
