About Remedial therapy and sports massage. Pregnancy massage and birth prep.

Soft tissue therapy

Most people sustain injury to the soft tissue at some time due to occupational or recreational activity. Reasons for, and types of injury vary widely. A number of techniques can be used to restore balance to the tissues and enhance recovery. Injury is often accompanied by reduced function and mobility and this can be improved with use of different soft tissue techniques.

Sport and Remedial therapy

Injury may occur in the deeper muscle tissue for many reasons; therefore sports and remedial massage is important to athletes but it is also beneficial to desk bound office workers, computer enthusiasts, manual workers and anyone experiencing tight muscles! Sports massage involves deep tissue work often focusing on specific areas of tension or injury Effective, regular sports massage will help to maintain and improve the range of movement and muscle flexibility. Where injury has occurred it can assist healing and help to reduce discomfort during the rehabilitation process. Remedial Treatment employs massage techniques designed to treat both deep and superficial tissues. Specific techniques are used to help restore and enhance physiological activity with the aim of enhancing performance and preventing injury.

Pregnant and postnatal mothers

Pregnancy is a natural and remarkable experience. The physical and emotional changes of pregnancy may at times appear overwhelming. Regular massage during pregnancy can help to enhance relaxation, de-stress, relieve aches and pains and prepare for labour and birth. To meet your individual needs treatment may comprise mobility work and exercise and can include your birth partner if you wish. Following the birth these benefits can be continued with postnatal massage.

Stress relief and enhanced relaxation

Swedish Massage techniques underpin the treatment for stress relief and to enhance relaxation. The massage involves using gentle, flowing techniques with varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements. Every person is unique and to meet your individual needs various techniques may be combined with Swedish massage.

Massage with medical conditions

Diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions should be undertaken by an appropriately experienced medical practitioner. However, massage can provide an effective complementary therapy for many medical conditions. At your consultation a careful medical history will be taken. There are a few medical conditions in which massage is contra-indicated. Where appropriate I may ask your permission to consult with your GP prior to massage treatment.  Examples of conditions that can be elped by massage include headaches, stress and digestive disorders
