RE: AOR Case Studies
Dear Merlin
I have worked with people who suffered with migraines, and reflexology has been a help. I would say, do your consultation and give your client a full initial treatment, make a note of your observations, and see how they get on with that. People can get headaches after reflexology anyway, so a fairly gentle treatment might be advisable to hopefully minimise an unpleasant healing crisis. At the first consultation, get as much info as you can about their migraines - what seems to trigger them? do they have food intolerances? what symptoms do they get eg visual disturbances, pain anywhere else, digestive upsets? do they skip meals and get low blood sugar? are they stressed? is there anything they can do to avoid triggers? do they get tension in their back/shoulders/neck which may contribute to their migraines? do they exercise? are they under emotional strain? etc etc. Find out what medication they take and look it up online and in your drug book to research what it does and what potential side effects are. Regarding their condition, chances are they have not given the whys and wherefores a lot of thought, and you might find a way they can try to help themselves eg they gorge themselves silly on cheese, oranges and chocolate which are know migraine triggers. This will demonstrate that you are employing a holistic approach to your clients and doing what they call reflective practice. Of course, you can explain that reflexology is a great help for balancing and relaxing people, enabling them to heal better. And I hope the reflexology will be a great help to your client. I have one client at present who just doesn't seem to get migraines any more! It is a nice feeling if you can help someone in that sort of way.
OK, now some reflex points you may like to focus on: head and brain, spine, occipital, neck, and adrenals. To balance and help with the pain. Also stomach and instestines if their migraines make them feel sick. NB You may have noticed that often clients who arrive with any sort of head ache leave their session without it!
Good luck!
