Its very frustrating that nobody in a position of authority from the Society of Sports Therapists or BASRAT post on here. We MIGHT then get a balanced view which will allow the people in the middle to make up their own minds about the industry and where its heading so that they can make informed decisions.
Unfortunately for what ever reason the SST choose not to come on here, I am certain though that they are aware of HP and monitor what is being said about the industry and about them as a PA.
ONE DAY, all concerned will have to hammer out a way forward otherwise we will forevever be stuck in this cycle of who's better. Too many ego's in this industry and some big fish in a very little pond.
the day when we all sit round the same table has been and unfortunately gone, they sat round the regulators table and basically said they did not recognise anyone else owrking in sports therapy other than graduates, YET STILL run Diploma courses (WE KNOW THEY DONT ACTUALLY RUN THEM cancelling late because of low numbers).
They are trying to maintain their self proclaimed elite status and lead body status
I would welcome sitting round the table again, but Ill say this on here, Is it only me who is reading their and HPC statements correctly, they are using SCOTTISH MPs to vote on SCOTTISH polocies to try and get some form of regualtion in SCOTLAND and then attempt to lobby in England, so check out the Scottish FA as thats where I think they are trying to get established.
that is why if you book on the Glasgow course, you have to complete it in scotland, why else would this be happening.
I spent a day with Ex BASRAT board member last week, and got lots of interesting info which Im following up on. obviously I will post here if I get an answer

If you want to know what BASRaT think, just go on their website, they are pretty good at being transparent, and dont hide info on their members only pages. I thought you knew what SST said, as you used to be a member?
People can read, but if they cant understand what the HPC say, then sadly, they arent going to get anywhere are they
I think you, as an ex member, have said enough about SST on here for people to make up their minds
I dont think anyone is stuck in a cycle of whos better, unless they arent very successful in their own career/practice. Certainly the people I talk to dont give a flying fig about stat regs, they are busy, successful, and happy with the industry. The people I care about are the ones trying to enter the profession (at student level), who are being told that stat regs is imminent, and that you HAVE to have a degree to work in the industry....that is just downright misleading and incorrect, on both counts!
It is a shame that more PAs dont come on here, because I know for a fact that they read them, but they think that what is said doesnt affect them, however, we all know that it does. When members start to leave PA's because they realise their PA does nothing for them, because they read on here things that their PA isnt telling them, that should make them sit up and do something, however, egos get in the way.

Oh yes, I have first hand experience of this........several times! I would like to hear from others who have had such issues with that course, I know of a couple who I have made contact with but if you have the details of anymore then I would happily speak to them and find out what action they have taken.
I thought you knew what SST said, as you used to be a member?
Richard, as I said earlier you only get replies from them that a politician would be proud of!

If I have put people off from signing onto that course, then that can only be a good thing can't it? They may even then decide to sign up to yours instead.
This forum only comes to life when there is a good healthy debate about regulation. Heres to the next 20 years posting about the same stuff!
I can only go off what you and others have told me about their experiences with that course, and if I were in your situation I would have said exactly the same as you have. The fact that it doesn't meet NOS is another reason I would dissuade people from doing it.
If I ever get any negative or constructive feedback I act on it straight away, so I cannot for the life of me understand how someone can get so much critisism yet just blatantly ignore it
You are right about regulation waking up the sports therapy thread!

Because there is nothing to stop them from continueing to run the course even when hardly anyone signs up to do it. Thats why they constantly cancel the practical weekends or change the location at short notice. People just need to be better informed about the course. Unfortunately there is only one or two choices left in the country to study ST at diploma level. For me personally the SST course was appealing because it was distance learning with practicals available in a fairly central location. They state that the course takes 18 months to 2 years.....they are having a laugh.
Maybe you can explain this to me Richard. The SRTC drew up the NOS with skillsactive, the SST have in writing admitted that their diploma run through a third party company(in the same building I believe) does not meet the skillsactive standards. Why arent the SRTC telling them to bring the course ipto spec or risk legal proceedings. I have been to trading standards who advised that I get my money back from the credit card company. Thats great, I will get my money back but they will keep running the course and other people will be signing upto something wholly unsatisfactory. The SRTC need to put their foot down IF they trully are concerned with pushing the industry forward.
There is no law to say anyone has to teach to NOS, they are guidelines to ensure occupational competence, therefore if a course doesn't meet them it cannot prepare you to work in the industry.

You know what, there's no point getting that frustrated, even if there was a law there are always loopholes, BGFL has already evidence of a DL provider offering PHYSIO courses.
Non NOS = substandard....if someone knows this when they book a course, it's their loss. Whilst forums like this exist, all we can do is highlight the substandard.

Alas when I signed up to the aforementioned course I honestly thought it was upto standard. At that time the skillsactive NOS were not in place. I just went on the endorsement of the leading sports therapy organisation in the country not knowing that it was actually their course. My fault I didn't research it before parting with my money. I didn't speak to the other disgruntled ex students until after I had parted with the money.
But as you say, people can see my experiences and do their own research before signing on the dotted line. I was considering going back to finish the course but I have a sneaking suspicion that I wouldnt pass.
