This may seem a really 'off the wall' answer, but - being a shamanic practitioner, and knowing that many native peoples around the world (e.g. the Inuit) believe that every bit of us, including nail parings, have souls - I have made my finger nails much stronger by doing a soul retrieval for them.

It's not a long-term solution because, of course, we have to keep cutting our nails, so they keep losing soul. But I only have to do it once every few years, to keep them okay.

I'm glad that's worked for you, Crowan (what about hair? and skin?). My nails have always been very strong and seem healthy, but of course I cut them, so why do they not appear to have lost bits of soul?

Dotty, I don't know what else to advise other than perhaps massage almond oil into them - when CarolineN comes back from holiday I'm sure she'll be able to give you some nutritional tips.

To be honest, I don't know. As I said, it seems a bit strange, even to me. I've never come across anyone who lost soul because of cutting their hair (unless, maybe, we count Samson). Nor because of loosing teeth (unless the losing of them has been traumatic). It was just an odd thing with my nails that I tried and, since it worked, I've passed it on.

Even people I've known who have had limbs amputated have lost soul through the trauma of having the amputation, or through whatever led to the amputation, rather than losing the soul of the limb itself. This may be the same thing, though - that we talk about 'a bit of our soul' going and native peoples tend to talk about 'one of their souls' going.

That makes sense to me. Thanks, Crowan.
