Remedial Massage Courses.

Hi

For a long time now I have been interested in becoming a sports therapist/remedial masseur. I tried to get on the over subscribed physio degree course at my local uni about 12 years ago to no avail and regreted giving up so easily.

I've been looking into various courses. The one that really stands out is the Remedial Massage course at the Northern Inst of Massage. My intention is to then go on to do their sports massage course.

One of my friends has done IIHHT and VCTC courses, but says that NIM is the way to go if I can afford it.

Are there any other courses that are worth doing? Or can someone recommend any colleges etc, I live just outside Durham.

I feel I can make a go at this and realise that it may take some time to build up a practise. How long does this generally take?

What are the chances of employment once qualified? Or is self employment the realistic way to go?

Hi Kevin

I trained at the northern institute of massage when it was still in Blackpool and can highly recommend them to you, the courses are ongoing so you can take your training as high as you want to with them, they are not cheap but the training has been established over many years and is excellent, people travel from all over the world for their training :-)

It can take a long time to establish a new practice, most remedial massage therapists are self employed ;-)

Thanks Paul. I think I have my heart set on NIM. But, obviously, I'll keep an open mind and do more research.

Just read back over my post. I could have expressed my self slightly differently. There is no intention to look down on other institutes/organizations/courses etc, sorry. It was late , for me, when I posted. Will exercise more thought in future.

I've also done some searching here and read, with interest, what some of you have said about starting up in business. Some great advice there.
