I did reiki 2 in January and have struggled to find family and friends interested enough to build up my experience with reiki on others. Ive now managed quite a few sessions and noticed a friend was hosting a pamper evening at an old work place of mine.
Ive asked to have an area to do reiki with the thinking that I can get a lot of practice and share something good with others.
I have a few questions: has anyone done this kind of thing before? Will 20 minutes be long enough for a 'taster'? Should I have a little bit of information there e.g what is reiki etc? and Do you think it would be acceptable to have flyers offering reiki at a token price e.g. covering petrol/time rather than for the 'service'?
Im thinking along the lines that this could be a door to a lot of practice for me.
I have done lots of Reiki tasters at various events over the years and found it very rewarding. I gave 20min 'slots' to allow people to sit down, ask a few questions about what Reiki was then give them 10 mins of just sending Reiki (above the crown),then time for them to feedback what they felt and go before the next person came along.
Make sure you build in two 10 min breaks for yourself to either nip to the loo or get something to drink! It is a great way of meeting a lot of people, get some practice with the energy and hopefully get some people interested in coming back for a full session .
I would say go with what feels right for the person you're treating.
Someone may say they have a particular issue (a common one at all day events is "I've got a headache" because they've not stopped to have a rest and a drink), so you could work on that area, whereas others may not have any idea and like a more "all over" treatment (doing a couple of minutes in each hand position is fine for demonstration purposes). Alternatively you could see about sensing where the energy is needed and focus on those areas.
Why limit yourself to just one way of doing it. Everyone is different.
Hi I have done taster reiki session for people before and found allocating 30 mins each best for me. 5 mins at begining - 20 mins reiki - 5 debrief & reflection. I found and still do when doing full hour sessions most people like time to talk about their experience and possibly ask questions. Defo set yourself coffee, loo &/or lunch breaks.
Its great for experience and confidence building. GoodLuck & Enjoy :-) x
Hello, great to hear that you are practicing Reiki. When I do Reiki, I tend to go into a sort of trance state where I am not very aware of what is going on around me! All though this has never caused problems with running- over time wise, I get so involved in the treatment that once it is over, I need a few minutes to compose myself for the next client. All the advice received is sensible...DO make sure you have ten minutes in between clients, and maybe a bit of extra time incase a client gets particularly emotional. When you do nip to the loo, remember to ground yourself. If your main aim from the pamper evening is to get repeat clientele, you will have to show what a fantastic treatment it is, with amazing results, in a very short period of time. So make sure that the scene is set: beautiful music, some soothing lavender oil burning, dimmed lights (if possible), and I would perhaps just concentrate on a few key areas instead of the whole body. When you start the treatment, perhaps ask Spirit what areas of the client needs the most attention. That way, if you soothe their unhappy tummy, they will be amazed and hopefully come back! Most of all enjoy it! Nic x
Can I just add that it may not always be possible to have dim lights/music/burn oils etc but not to worry! I have had taster sessions in the main hall of schools with other stands beside me and a salsa demonstration going on right next to my table and yet people STILL managed to relax! When I apologised for all the noise they said that they were aware of it but it didn't bother them as they were so relaxed . Also, I always took a big bottle of water with me and some plastic cups so that I could give them a drink after the session to help ground them, plus a pack of hand wipes to use if I did need to put my hands on people, just to show that my hands were clean for the next person.
I recently went to a workshop called 'Marketing for Hippies' which was aimed at holistic practitioners to help them build up their practice.
The question of taster sessions came up- I'll pass on the advice that was given...
1) Don't be too pushy or 'salesy' afterwards, eg "So you enjoyed the taster session, yes? Get your diary out, when would you like a full length one?"
2) Be transparent about your intentions- you can say at the beginning that you're doing tasters for people to see if they'd like to work with you (as opposed to, giving a taster on behalf of the modality of reiki)
3) Do make sure you have a way to keep in touch after- don't just give them a card and hope for the best. Ideally take their email and (with their permission) send them a nice youtube meditation, or an article about reiki, or something else relevant.

I do much the same as RubyRed....5 mins before and after and 20 mins Reiki. What part of the person I work on depends on what feels right at the time and what they say they feel they need.
Thanks for all of your advice. I will certain bear it all in mind. Unfortunately that pamper evening was cancelled. I was so excited about it! Oh well, what will be will be.
Im really struglling to find anyone to share reiki with. My friends have had a few sessions but I have a lot of sceptical or busy people around me and I just am not getting the chance to practice.
I really would like to move to master but my own master has, rightly, said that as that would be training people I need to get as much practice as possible.
Does anyone have any tips for letting people know that I want to share reiki for free?
I joined a massage/energy exchange. The energy one seems redundant and the massge one is almost like an online dating site with men looking at my profile who have nothing to share but want a young woman to provide something for them!
It is quite frustrating. All I would like to do is share reiki with people!

Help!
When I needed Guinea pigs for hypnotherapy or to try out a new deck for readings I put it on Facebook. I got all the volunteers I need and more.
If you are on FB just put it in your status that you are offering free reiki. The word free gets peoples attention. You may be surprised by who wants to take you up on the offer.
