Are ghosts simply the spirits of the dead or are they more than that? I have seen several ghosts, quite friendly ones, but friends have reported some hostile entities to me. This suggests to me that most ghostly sightings and encounters are products of 'residue energy' left over after physical death. Have other members had different encounters or no encounters at all?
Hi Pats: I do personally believe a lot of ghost sightings are left over impressions made by a strong energy. However, two people have come to me just before they passed over. I believe it was their spirit saying goodbye. I saw what could be described as a ghost - but might have been a left over impression. (It certainly made an impression on me!) It was a transparent figure of a woman (not the whole figure) crying and sad. I felt very sad as I watched her and then she faded.....hmmmm. So, I guess I believe there are many explanations and they are all probably true. love, beej
In my experiences i have seen ghost as the residu of death people and i have also other things witch i could not see as ever being human and they where indeed hostile. But i believe there are some laws, they can scare you but the have no right to touch you because they are obliged to the rules of your world. Yes it sounds weird like i write it here but there are certain unwritten laws they can't step over those, you have kind of the rights of the living so you can stand your ground.
Your ancestors and the people you knew in former lives are guarding you and will come if you call them for help to drive the other kind away, you can always count on that. huh i always call my grandmother, i have never met her in live but i did later and she is still angry about things that happen to her and very protective so she scares all ghosts away so i can sleep with her guarding me.
Thank you so much for your insights and knowledge in this. You see, I have a video of true ghost stories, in which the narrator takes the viewer on a 'tour' of haunted buildings. On one of the tours, I can see the ghost of a lady dressed in red. I wondered if it was my imagination, but since you both have had experiences of this type of thing I am sure that it cannot be my imagination after all.
I agree, we are surrounded by energy, both wanted and unwanted. IndraB, I am pleased that you find comfort in your grandma. Oh yes, our departed relatives are great ones for looking out for us, I am convinced of it.
I am going to write now, of an experience that I had over 22 years ago - please bear with me because it is long, and I apologise if I have posted it on HP before. It isn't a 'Ghost' story as such but it does deal with a spirit. It is the only incident in 27 years that frightened the life out of me..... but one after explanation cleared up the worry of it.
When I first turned to Spiritualism I did not know how to pray properly - to open my heart and speak from it. Oh! I had prayed but not with any depth. A medium told me that I was going to be given a rosary by a Catholic lady, and three weeks later - I was. I was immediately able to pray in a way I had never been able to before, and each night I would say my prayers and put the rosary under my pillow before going to sleep
This particular night I had for some reason left it round my neck, before 'dropping off.'
My youngest daughter had finally left home, to work away and I temporarily moved into her bedroom which was smaller and warmer - because it had the tank cupboard in it. Her bed was opposite this, and in front of a cubby-hole door ( where we used to store things not in use ).
I woke up at 4 am wanting to go to the bathroom and it was pitch dark outside. I turned off the light and settled down in bed again, and very soon became conscious of someone on the bed behind me, as I turned over, I was aware of a nasty smell coming towards me like really bad breath, immediately my hand went up to the rosary and I uttered the words "my soul belongs to God" . ( A bit dramatic I know - but it served its purpose.)
I found myself in a brilliant light facing this man, ( in fact the whole room was ablaze with a most brilliance I have ever seen ) who appeared to be dressed in a suit, quite normal looking but for his mouth that was wide open and very red inside. I am meanwhile still holding the rosary, and I called out - "Help me Father", yet though no words were coming from my mouth I could hear them. A very loud voice then commanded the man to go back in peace - three times .... and he backed clean through my bedroom window. As I turned to get back into bed, my friend was there with me and I asked her what she was doing there - to which she replied " You asked for help and I've come to help you."
The next thing I remember was waking up and looking straight at the window fully expecting it to be smashed to pieces because of the force that the man gone through it with, but it was intact. I couldn't understand what had happened because I KNEW it hadn't been a dream. Thinking about it at work later, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I should not have sent him away like that, and I said a little prayer for him to be helped.
Came bedtime that same day -- I thought not ruddy likely and I spent three nights on the sofa - not thinking that spirit can be wherever you are - bed or sofa - I did not want an experience like that again.
When I went to Church the following Saturday I had a word with Arthur our circle leader and my mentor as he walked into the Church kitchen. I enter the following conversation that ensued between us; A) for him and M) for me
M) "Oh! Arthur, am I glad to see you!"
A) " Why what's up lass ?"
I related to him all that had happened that night and he listed to what he was being told from/through his guides.
A) " They are telling me that you have every reason to be angry that it happened - he was attracted to your light - they knew what was going to happen and could have protected you from the experience - but they allowed it to happen for one reason, you are able to relate to people and they are hoping eventually to use you for rescue work. You were tested and you weren't found wanting. You said a prayer for the man."
M) " I did the next morning, I felt that he shouldn't have been sent back like that."
A) " What kind of light was it ?"
M) " Brilliant Arthur, I have never seen anything quite like it."
A ) "You have nothing to fear from the dark forces my girl, you are
I have only once seen a 'ghost' (see below), but I am quite often aware of a presence.
I was sitting in my friends house having a morning cuppa. Her lounge had a window at either end, one looking out onto the front garden and one looking out onto the back garden. My eye was suddenly drawn to the back window and I noticed a man looking in.
"I think the window cleaner is here" I told her, telling her I had just seen someone at the back window.
"Oh no, that's not the window cleaner, it's my Dad" she said. Her father had passed over 2 years previously! She was very close to her Dad and he had actually passed over in her house whilst visiting her. She said she saw him looking in the window quite often.

Thank you for sharing your story. It does sound as if your spirit man was looking to you to rescue him. New mediums often have experiences like these and they can be very scary. Keep attending your circle and you will come to know how to deal with them when they crop up. Remember one thing - you are the 'captain of the ship' - if you don't want these spirits near you, you must send them away, don't let them 'overtake' you. There is always a time and place for spirit communications and rescues, and sleep-time is not one of them. They must share your medium training, and be as disciplined as you have to be. Very important, as otherwise you would get no peace! True! It was kind of you to share your experience. Blessings.

Yes, ghosts do come in all sorts of forms, but in all my time as a medium, I have never seen a ghost on screen. I wondered if I was seeing things, or if it was 'made up' for the video. Blessings.
I saw my first ghost when I was only little, my parents tell me that they came into my room and I told them about the man that was sitting at the bottom of my bed. They couldn't see anyone.
The next time was several years later just after my grandpa died, I had gone to sleep and thought that I was dreaming (you know the really vivid ones) I was standing on a road with a grass incline to my right, I could see people walking up the road to the right some distance in front of me. Then I saw my grandpa he just appeared infront of me, he looked at me and smiled and said "dont be frightened" I'm not I said I would never have been scared of him I loved him far too much then he said "everything is going to be alright". and everything disappeared. As I said I thought it was a dream until about six months afterwards, at the time my grandpa died the dog we had died 17 weeks later. anyway I was transported back to this same place and once again my grandpa appeared infront of me "I've brought someone to see you" he said and the dog came bounding over. I spent some time with them and then it was time to go. I woke up the next day and thought what a nice dream until my brother came into my room and curled his nose up and said "it smells of dog in here". Could just be a coincidence I suppose.
Since then I have had various "incidences" with ghosts and spirits none of which thankfully have not been bad.

There is a lot more to ''ghosts'' than just people passing over. First its not a term we (or they) like very much lol.
When we are talking about spirit we are talking about the continuance of energy from the 'shell' or body, whens the shell ceases to be. However, there are elements that have never lived or breathed the way you and i have. Also, though we are talking about energy, and energy is more than just spirit form. Freda, you never did relate that experience to me, and I find it incredibly interesting, You must omit a very powerful positive energy! I remember being told when I was younger that to spirit, mediums are like belisha beacons. I wonder if this is what Aurthur meant in his reply to you, that you gave off the light to spirit and therefore it came to you.
When I am dealing with negative entities, in all truth I bind and boot them out, but then I have been known to cuss others for not helping lost souls to cross over which I guess makes me a bit of a hypocrite. the way I see it is this, they are given the opportunity to progress to the lighter planes, if they choose not to then thats their outlook, I don't intend to be affected by their negativity. However your compassion in this case will make me think twice before I bind and boot, and in future when dealing with negative entities I will do my upmost to help them into the light, if my attempts fail then I will be left with no option but to bind and boot, but I will give it a try in each case.
Its common practise for us to try and help positive spirit to cross over when they haven't found the light, and its really something we should do with all spirit.
Thankyou Freda, I feel very humbled by your experience and it has taught me a great deal about thinking of those entities before the situation I am in, and as it is part of the path that I have chosen to follow, I really should have considered it earlier.

The problem is flower that not all entities are aware they have passed on, and those waiting to help them are not able to do so until they have that awareness. They emit a light that those waiting to help, see, and can intervene - until then the soul who is 'lost' has his/her own free will, and no-one can over-ride it.
Anyone helping from this side of life, has to talk to them to bring that awareness, and it is easier to do it on this plane than the spiritual ones - don't know why.
Those we have helped over - we have always tried to get them to see the light and those who wait within it to take them 'home'. It requires a lot of patience sometimes but is so good when you are able to help them.
I was trying to copy some Direct Voice tapes of Leslie Flint's Circle to send you - but am having problems with a background noise - so when Les is out for the day on Tuesday I will be able to do them on the larger music centre without him asking me to 'turn it down a bit'.
One that I have done for Trevor, is on side a) of a man called Ted Butler who was killed in a street accident in Leeds in 1923 - I think he said. He also said that there was no pain over the accident, and after being hit he found himself standing a bit away from the vehicle, where a group of people were gathering. He moved over to see what they were all looking at, and saw this man who looked very much like him.
After a while of travelling on trains etc, he heard this woman speaking to him, and yet nobody else had been able to notice his presence let alone speak to him .... it turned out that she was the one who was to help him pass over - and had done all the journeys with him until she could get through to him ..... I do think that I wouldn't have been quite so patient, he would have heard me before then (lol).
Souls can only gravitate to where their life here has determined for them. The way they have lived their life, the good or bad things they have done to others is the ladder by which they climb.
Many of the religions are at fault when people find themselves 'at sea' when passing, because of the dogma they perpetuate. Everybody survives the death of the physical body as you know, but religion does not formulate the entire picture, and this is where it is letting such a lot of people down ... their expectations are different to the actual process.
On another tape a woman called Nellie Wright comes through and tries to 'save' all the circle sitters. She belonged to the Salvation Army, and there are groups of them who still practise that faith over the other side - as do all religions - but each think they are the ones who have it all right, when in effect they are equally right every single one of them .... some just take a little longer than others to get where they should be ... but I found it very strange how they all come back urging people to turn towards God, and religion has not the paramount importance placed upon it that it has here. What is more important is how we treat each other now for the future we will have in the next life.
I have had these tapes for over twelve years and have never listened to them in all that time ..... I wish there were more than 24 hours in a day .......
Thanks for your wonderful insight. Yes, there is much more to ghosts than people not passing over. We pagans and witches are here to allow others to grow, to show the way. I am a Spiritualist medium as well as being a witch, and since my embarkation on this path, have 'seen' a great deal, but there is yet more to see and experience.

Both Dreamcatcher and myself are practising witches, and spiritualist mediums. Its actually quite unusual to find a person who does both. In my circle I am trying to balance the two as I feel that both are intertwined.

Likewise, Shelli. I have found that this 'path' suits me best. I was just sashaying around, looking for insight into life and feeling like a square peg in a round hole until I found Spiritualism. I progressed to my erstwhile niche of witch. I say 'erstwhile' as I strongly suspect that I was once a witch in a previous life.
I used to run a circle, but it became too much for me. However, now things have settled down, I may go back to it. There are many people out there who are searching in the ways that I was. After all, what is experience for, but to use?
