Come on Luke, tell us your latest horrific massage experience?? lol
I'll be generous and make one up for you:
I rang a massage therapist that was recommended to me. I always wanted a Cornish Fish Massage and the therapist was cheap. I got there to discover that I had to lye on a fishy smelling couch wearing paper disposible underpants which was very stratchy to my bits. Then I was covered in canned piltchards with tomato sauce and was percussed very vigorously. I paid £5 for this. I think massage therapists charge too much and I have to save a very long time for a massage, and this is the service I get!!! Love Luke

I did enjoy your massage Dave even if you swopped pilchards for the sardines in olive oil you promised me. I want to try mackerel in mustard sauce next time if that's OK. By the way it was £6 wasn't it!
PS Why did you put the pants in your fridge as I was leaving?
See you next tuesday (for my next CFM)
Seriously, I agree and think it is a quiet phase, BUT the restructuring of the massage forum with so many sub-forums seems to have been the final straw. There are just so many sub-forums there are no areas of active discussion, which is what makes a community rather than a post every 6 months.

I agree the sub-forums added IMO an overlay of unnecessary complexity such that browsers of the forum may just give up before finding the Massage Forum or anything of interest. The 'Beast' was better when it was whole not disected.
Also I posted a new topic around May last year called How Long is a one hour Massage IIRC.
Mods were quickly alerted that there was an existing/similar thread and my thread was immediately incorporated into the previous old thread. In one stroke my thread was robbed of it's freshness and relation to the present moment. If we wanted a library we would go to one.
This is supposed to be a discussion forum I think. The time for archiving is when something eg a thread has become history!

Well, I'll let Mike know and see what he thinks, and whether they should all be aggregated back into one Massage forum. It's what happens when people keep saying they want a new forum for "this" or "that" hehe!
Hi Elz, the massage forum does seem to be disjointed. Regardlss of the form of massage people may practice or are interested in, many of the issues often rised have general appeal.
Have to agree, i think its quiet on here and am not a fan of the subforums eithers.
I also liked the different replies form different therapists as it provided an alternative way of looking at things, so a sports massage therapist may have looked at doing a particular test to check for tightness or working particular muscles that someone may not have thought of and vice versus.
Reading this thread (as a former regular contributor who is now only an occasional visitor), I am surprised by the criticism of the sub-forums. Personally I think it is a good idea to have sub-forums on specialist subjects such as ‘remedial massage’ or ‘myofascial release’: it makes it much easier to find relevant discussions.
Although Luke has said “if we wanted a library we would go to one”, I think that the therapy forums are in fact quite useful as a library. For example, I see that a couple of old threads on naturist massage and Jing courses were revived recently after laying dormant for some time. I think that it was very sensible for the people who revived those threads to add their comments to an old thread, rather than starting a new one from scratch. And there have been some very useful previous discussions on specialist subjects such as lomi lomi and chavutti thirumal.
Personally I think that the main reason why the therapy forums are much quieter than they used to be is that many people have switched to other ‘social media’ sites such as Facebook and Twitter, which weren’t around when I joined HP in 2004.
As someone who covers quite a few different types of massage i find it a bit more difficult. In fact i now scan all the subforums to check for new posts. I enjoyed the interaction from other types of therapists and hearing comments and feedback from other therapists working in sports massage or myofascial helped me deepen my knowledge, question what i knew and continue to develop my skills.
In fact i have signed up to do myofascial release and that was because over time due to discussions on here from all kinds of therapists who were leaving feedback, it made me aware of the benefits. Had it already been sub forumed i wouldn't have looked at that forum as i wouldn't know much about it and it wasn't my 'therapy' Just my opinion!
Hadn't thought of looking on facebook Alan, but will do a search and see if there are any groups i can sign up to. I always enjoy talking with other therapists.

I agree that having subforums makes it more difficult to find new posts, but it does make it easier to use the forums as a reference tool. However, you don't need to scan all subforums to find new posts. Just click on "New Posts" in the menu bar and you'll see every thread that's been posted to since you last logged on.
This also has the advantage that you can see what's happening in other areas than your own - e.g. there's been some interesting stuff about shamanism and paganism recently that I wouldn't have looked at had I just been reading the massage threads.
