Since watching these videos I have started several massage treatments with the head first and the results are good. Mentioned it to a colleague, who tried if out on a client today with the head first within her usual IHM routine and liked doing it that way. It seems to relax the client quicker than the usual westernised routine of upperback, shoulders, neck, head and so forth.
Also it's nice to see Baba on the video work the whole arm down to the hands and all the way down the back. Now I have argued with other therapists for arm, hand & back to be added to IHM, so nice to see my instincts were right.
Am going to give this a go tomorrow when treating a client.
I have always thought, when experiencing indian head massage that i would prefer them starting on my head, especially as i find that the most relaxing bit. Next time i do a massage swap i will try this out and see how it feels too!
If you wanted to do the head first with oils, you could have the client topless (with a towel wrapped around them of course) and then carry on with the oils working the upper back, shoulders, arms and hands!
Most of my clients prefer to have a towel wrapped around them and no top underneath and so that was how i did it for one of my clients recently when starting with the head first.
She said she really enjoyed starting with the head first as that was her favourite bit and so once that bit was done, she was more relaxed and enjoyed the rest of it more than usual.
Haven't done any more indian head treatments since but will do this with clients when the opportunity arises. Unfortunately, i find Indian head massage not very popular, which is a shame as its lovely.
OMG I love baba i knew from the moment you put the link it was going to be him. I reg go on you tube to look at the massages there - I find i so relaxing - sorry if thats being strange...............
