Default Homework for Hypnotherapy clients

I know that many therapists, especially cognitive behavioural therapists, give homework to their clients to do between sessions but I wondered if any Hypnotherapists did too and if so what kind of things do you ask your client to do?

I am currently training to be a hypnotherapist and at present, I'm just advising clients to listen to my relaxation CD in between sessions. I've suggested to some of my clients to write down 3 things which have been good about their day at the end of each day too, but other than that I haven't given them things to do.

Do you find these kind of tasks helpful in conjunction with hypnotherapy or a waste of time? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Lavandula,
When i studied stress management we had to set homework for our case studies clients... only we tried not to use the term homework....as it was felt it may well bring up more stress related issues as the client/casestudy could have had past problems based around school or homework. My children hate homework.!!
Its sounds like you are suggesting the right things and its abit like aftercare a complementary or beauty therapist may offer after a treatment.

Much love and light,
Rachelx

Thanks Hallos for the reply. I hadn't thought of the "homework" issue and it bringing up things about the past. I spoke to my lecturer and he said that many people have problems doing homework because they struggled to do it at school and because it is something they are told to do. He's advised us that it is not a requirement in the field of solution-focused therapy so I will just stick to giving them my relaxation/self-hypnosis CD.
