Default Next steps after massage course

Hello there and happy easter to all,
Last week I passed my exams in holistic massage and I am now looking towards starting my own business possibly as a mobile massage therapist in my local area.
I am just a bit clueless now on how to go about this. What do I need to do? Do I need to register with the local council? Do I need to belong to an association- I am a member of BABTAC already and have insurance.
If anyone has any idea on what I would need to do next, that would greatly be appreciated.

Kindest Regards

Lisa

Hi Lisa
Congratulations on completing your courses - now begins the really hard work!!!

Do you currently have a paid job? If so, I would hang on to it for a while, whilst you work on a business plan and do some marketing. You should not need to register with a local council (unless you live in Westminster?) - unless you live in rented accommodation and intend to work from home.

It might be a good idea to have a look through some of the threads in the Business Forum - I put 'new business' into the search box, and this came up Healthypages Discussion Forums - Search Results - you will spend a lot of time in the coming days/weeks/months, making lists and making plans. Good luck.

thanks Jabba for your advice. I will start working on it straight away. I currently am unemployed with 2 children at school. I was thinking to get a part time job somewhere while I build up my clients. I dont have a clue on how to build a business plan, but I am looking at advertising and adding a few other skills to build myself up,looking at courses in baby and indian head massage. Its quite daunting now to think i have finished the course and now I am about to go out on my own.

Thanks again

Lisa

Congratulations on completing your course and good luck with the business.

Jabba has given some great advice and i thoroughly recommend reading through the business section as that is what i did to get started. I spent hours going through it and getting great advice.

There are lots that need doing, a website is a great idea, future courses are also good, i do Indian head massage and do quite well from it.

Firstly though, before deciding on websites etc, get over to the business section and soak up all the advice on there and from that you can see how you want to proceed. There are things to consider such as when you will be available to work, what your going to wear, sourcing equipment, but all that will be helped by reading the business section.

I am a mobile therapist myself, so if there are any questions you have with regards to being a mobile therapist, feel free to pm me.
