Default using flower essences with children

Hi,
I am thinking about trying flower essences on my toddler and am not sure where to start really.
It won't be easy to get her to take them regularly, so how do you use them externally?
And I was thinking rescue remedy would be a good starting point, just to help with any residual birth trauma etc, or should I just use star of bethlehem on it's own for shock.
Thanks for any help.

Hello Wild Poppy,

I'm a great fan of Bach flower remedies, so it's fantastic to see your question - although I didn't learn anything about them until my children were teenagers, so don't have any experience with toddlers.

I went on a short course (once a week for 6 weeks) and received a 'level one' certificate. It was an excellent introduction and well worth the investment, giving me a sound basis of knowledge for my own everyday use. I would really recommend such a course, if you can find one locally.

I remember learning that Dr Bach's vision was that every kitchen shoud have a full set of remedies for everyday use.

The drops can easily be put into your child's drinks.

Personally, I would use them on as 'as needed' basis, ie crying when you don't know what is wrong or nothing seems to calm them down, or after they've been hurt - and rescue remedy should be appropriate here. A clingy child might benefit from walnut (more security) and mimulus (reducing feelings of fear).

When your child is old enough, you can tell them what you're doing, even if it's as simple as 'this will make your feel better' .

Do try and find a course - you will learn so much!

Thanks for your reply,
I have thought about trying to do a course, less free time now with a little one but I will look into it.
I have used Bach essences for years, and also just discovered saskias essences which are quite local to me and they do courses and workshops too.

I have started to put drops in the evening bath but can't say I have seen any dramatic changes, (it's only been 2 days) but hope she will just be more settled generally.
I hadn't thought of walnut! but it makes sense as at that age there are constant new areas they are developing and changing in, and so they are influenced by their environment, so yes I will try that, thank you.
