Where can I buy a hopi flannel?

I've been trying to find somewhere that stocks the flannels with the hole in to go around the ear for candling. I'm not having much luck, does anyone know where I might be able to get one from?

I've never seen one, but have made my own just by cutting the hole in the flannel myself.

Hands on training who advertise courses with Healthy pages do them, there 3 for £8 plus about £1.50 postage.

Use a napkin or tissue with a hole in the middle, it much more hygienic, and saves on the washing, and cheaper.

why use one anyway? I have never used a flannel, a silver collar or a towel.
Just holding the candle in the correct manner is sufficient, I think its gimmicky and a money making scheme.

when i had mine done he person had nice colourful paper plates with hole in the middle, they said they were very light and were all made from re-cycled paper.

I think The Thermo-Auricular Therapy school also sells them http://www.thermo-auricular.com/, but like many of you I also just make mine. I had loads of spare flannels at home so just cut an ear length hole in them and use these, so works out really cheap too. It more environmentally friendly than using paper ones, and you can just put them in the wash with your towels.

The reasons for using these isn't to be gimmicky or to make other people money. It's used for health and safety reasons, and also to make the treatment more professional. Even the most experienced practitioners need them - and doesn't matter if you hold the candle/your hands correctly as the ash can still fly off. The idea is that you protect your clients hair and face from flying ash and debris. It is unlikely that anything "hot" will fall.

I had one in my kit and thought someone had just cut a hole in an ordinary flannel.
I use tissues instead.

I have never used one of these - I just place both my hands at the base of the candle to hold into the ear and place my hands so they cover the clients ears face and head. Never really had a problem with ash flying off. If it does come off its only happened about once or twice and it either landed on my hand which i took off straight away or I caught it and popped into the bowl of water. It falls slowly enough for you to catch it before it lands on your client.

Its not hot 'ash' as such so is not going to burn or do damage.

I wont be using these flannels will just carry on as I am.

What sort of candles do you use with the flannels?

The problem is that many insurance companies will not insure therapists without a protective cover.

I agree with Reiki Pixie - check your insurance. They're getting quite strict about ear candling and protection of client.

Reasons to use a cover:

1) insurance
2) professionalism from practitioner
3) client protection - ash is quite light and may fly off further than where your hands are, particular if you don't have large hands.
4) hygiene - more hygienic to use cover than have your hands on their hair and face
5) client comfort - it's more comfortable for them to feel the cover on their head and face - some find hands covering ears, face and head quite uncomfortable and suffocating.

I just use a flannel that I made the hole in myself by cutting a slit, this gives my client the option of having it right down over the eye. I find rarely the ash falls on the flannel but it makes the client feel more secure.
I also will only use Biosun candles.
