Default Healthy Detox?

Hi,

I am feeling the need to detox but I have never done it before. Does anyone know the "right" way to do it? For example how long should you do it for, what should you avoid and what dshoud yoy try to do?

It may sound a silly question but whe you search the net and find info on all these fad diets it makes you wonder what is healthy and what isn't!

Many thanks

hi moonflower,

I have always found the best way to detox if your new to the whole thing is just to do the basics. Try cutting out any nasty jusk food including chocolate ect as well as meats which can be tricky to digest. Stick with lots of fresh fruits and veg and white fish. And exchange any drinks with caffine in them for fruit teas.

To be honest I find it best not to set time limits on yourself, this just causes me to obsess a little on the finish line. Just see how it makes you feel and go from there. Try it for a couple of weeks and then see how you feel.

I hope this helps

there is a tv series coming out soon called 'the truth about food'... one episode is about detoxing... i only saw a short piece of it but the outcome was that crazy detoxes didn't have any more benefits than just eating healthily and in moderation...so i agree with pops, just eat well and you will achieve a good result. also make sure you chew your food as much as you can, helps with digestion.

Hi moonflower,

Get hold of a book called "The Tao of Detox" by Daniel Reid - he covers everything.

I would agree with pops, above. The idea of a detox is to give your digestive system a bit of a break and de-stress your skin and liver so you simply cut out foods that are harder to digest like wheat, dairy and meat and also sugar and caffeine. I think a week at a time is the best way to go, that way you aren't setting yourself up to fail. Good luck and good health.

And don't forget to drink plenty of water, and avoid salty foods too!

You may try the so called "American magic". It is healthy and does not require too much preparation. Good luck!

Try this link...
www.naturopathic-health.co.uk/detoxification.htm towards the end of the page it refers to the Liver Detox book - I read that and followed the diet for 6 weeks. it made a huge difference to my health - I'm back on the red wine now though!

You don't need to detox if you adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Drinking plenty of water is one of the best ways to detox your system.

One of the worst is colonic irrigation - it can flush away the good bacteria as well as the harmful toxins.

I have to disagree. Colonics will in fact, give the good bacteria a new clean home in which to thrive (http://www.colonic-association.org/hydrotherapy.html). Additionally, there are pro & pre-biotics you can take to boost the levels of good bacteria - FOS being one and rejuvalac being another. Both are prebiotics (http://www.whatreallyworks.co.uk/sta...article_ID=248) meaning that the good bacteria will use these as food to grow in numbers and strength.

I have had colonics and have never felt better afterwards.
