Hi bri2009

Colonic Hydrotherapy is a good thing, look for someone that does the open method (its much less invasive) It will help you identify if you have Candida and get rid of some of it if you do. It also releases any compacted undigested food which would contribute to your IBS. Do you know what blood group you are? that might help identify which foods are contributing to your discomfort.

I'm not sure what is meant by "open method" either, but what I do know of colonic hydrotherapy is that the recommendation is to be treated by someone who uses a gravity fed method (maybe that's what's meant by open method?) rather than a colonic machine that just pumps at a certain pressure. With gravity fed, the therapist will be trained to control the flow suitable for the client to prevent too much discomfort. With the machine version, that personal touch and control isn't really there and, as you'll see if you browse the web a little, some people have had issues relating to that method because the pressure has not been correct.

Crikey, I am a Colonic hydrotherapist and I don't know what is meant by the "open method" either.

A colonic may help with IBS but what you really have to look at is your diet and gut health in general.

Have you tried taking a probiotic?

Who told you that you had IBS?

My eating is erratic at times due to being a shift worker but i do try to eat good food and lots of fruit. I try to avoid processed food where i can cos this just aggravates the problem. My doctor diagnosed me a while ago after running some tests and finding nothing else.

HI Bri2009, I agree with patchouli. I think that diet is more important. My wife suffered with IBS but was much better after taking Actimel every day.

Hi Bri, if going for colonic check ARCH website

http://www.colonic-association.org/

A colonic will give you a good "clean out" but in essence unless you look at gut health in general and address these your problems will continue to re-occur.

A good therapist will do more than just a colonic, they will help you find what is right for you to repair your gut integrity and replenish your natural flora. Fruit is o.k but you really need to get the green leafy veg down you too. Natural yoghurt is good too, mix with low GI fruit such as berries for a good flora feed.

Good luck with your colonic, go for someone who allows extra time for a newby!!

Hi bri,

If you're still looking for someone in Manchester then you could try these guys http://www.innersanctuaryretreat.com/ I know they have a colonic hydrotherapist there but don't know who it is. I do, however, know they have a good reputation as a therapy centre in general and in fact my wife used to go there for massage treatments.

Thanks to all for your help and advice! Had my first treatment this afternoon and i have to admit it was nothing like i imagined.
The therapist was lovely, really friendly and took the time to put me at ease. I must admit i was nervous!!! Quite a strange experience and you can actually feel it wotking. I came away from it feeling better which im pleased about. Will definately be going for follow up treatments.

I think the open method is the method linked to the special bed where the client lies on their back and can self-insert the tube.

the closed method is an ordinary bed and the client lies on their side.

Yes, been looking onto this and I know it as the Libbe method. I have to say ARCH is against this as they consider this method is not safe.

P.S. We don't just do people on their side but also get them onto their back to do some abdominal massage during the treatment plus some people release better on their back, some on their side and it's not till you do them once you get a feel for what is best for them.

So pleased you found a good therapist and especially one who gave you "time". I have had loads of clients who have gone to places and been in and out in less than an hour, no explanantions, no chat, just awful.

Even tho' it looks to blowing my own trumpet I pride myself in trying to make it as pleasant an experience as it can be, given what it is.

Glad you found a good 'un
