Default How I cured my hayfever

Hi Everyone,

I’m a newbie to HP, but I thought you might be interested in my story about recovering from a lifetime of suffering from hayfever. I hope it will help some of you get some relief from your symptoms.

For as long as I can remember, I have suffered from chronic hayfever. During the summer months, I would spend most of my time indoors. My symptoms included sneezing fits (tired me out tremendously), itchy eyes, itchy mouth and sometimes asthma. [:'(]

I tried every medicine available from the chemist, and most helped a bit but still I was unable to have a normal life during the summer months. I tried homeopathy for a few years, and that also helped a bit (worked well for the itchy mouth).

A few years ago my partner, who is Crystal Cub on HP, mentioned that a teaspoon of locally sourced unfiltered (v. important) honey each morning might be a good alternative remedy for hayfever, as the body got used to the pollen in the honey and so didn’t get so upset when the pollen came into contact with the body. I found this to help more than the antihistamines had been doing, and it tasted nice! Another friend told me of a source for local honey near him, and I went to the farm to pick some up. This day was to become the beginning of the end of hayfever for me.

The woman I spoke to there was so full of enthusiasm for what she produced, and had so much information to dispense to me (and she still does, every time I speak to her). She spent nearly an hour telling me the benefits of honey, and pollen pills, propolis, beeswax, etc. Having tried all sorts of remedies over the years, I didn’t get too excited at the time.

So, over the next few months I took the honey and pollen pills she sold me. To my astonishment, I felt quite an improvement in my hayfever symptoms. So the following year, I started taking the pollen pills and honey before the hayfever season started to give my body a chance to build up an immunity to the pollen. To my utter amazement, I had almost no symptoms at all that year. I went out into the countryside all summer long, car windows down, through fields of grass, rapeseed, walked past large areas of freshly cut grass… it was a near complete clearing of my symptoms (there were days when I suffered a tiny bit, but much less than I normally would have and only on days when the pollen count was through the roof – and non hayfever suffers where having a bad time).

I had 2 years of no hayfever symptoms. This year I tried taking nothing at the start of the year to find out if the hayfever was cured, or I needed to keep taking the pills. Seems I need to keep taking them, but I can live with that! Since starting the pills again this year (about a month ago), my symptoms this year have cleared up almost totally.

So, the long and short of it is that for me taking pollen pills from around March until August gives me 99% relief from hayfever (and this was the kind of hayfever that could easily put me in bed from exhaustion for 2-3 days).

More information can be found at http://www.medibee.co.uk/ . BTW – I’m just a happy customer!

I do hope this information can help someone else out there.

Andy

A Polar Bear who had Hay Fever! There's a first! That must be down to Global Warming.

But thanks for this - I've put a few of my clients on to the idea, and it's nice to have your testamonial.

Hiya,

Glad to be able to help out a bit. It was such a change in my life that I want to tell anyone that is interested. Even if it helps someone a little, it would be worth the effort.

As for the polar bear bit - we like to travel alot. Don't get much pollen at the North Pole, so couldn't cope with it when I arrived here. Do like the weather better here though (who'd have thought it - an Englishman saying he likes the weather!).

HO Polar Bear

I too have heard of this cure, however, everyone is allergic to differant pollens, and may not be cured as it could be a completely differant pollen than the one that the bees collect.

Great to read you are cured though, wish i was, never had anything last year and now this year it has begun again.

Hi mark,
You are absolutely right, however the pollen pills I take have pollen which is sourced from multiple locations all year round. This way they get around 200 (I think) different pollens in the pills. I lived in Sheffield when I first took the pills, and I now live some 100 miles south in Hertfordshire and they still help me immensely.

Local honey tends to have just a few types of pollen in it, as the pollen varies at the year goes along. Pollen pills have the pollen collected over a longer period (and optionally from different places), so can have a multitude of types of pollen in them.

If the pollen only came from one location / type of plant, wouldn't help much if you travelled at all either. My partner and I have travelled to several places around the country so far this year, and i've had very few problems (mainly when I wasn't taking anything at the start of the season).

Hope this helps,

Andy

Hi Polar Bear,

I tried the contact details from the Beefit.co.uk site in the hope to order some honey and pollen pills but their phone is unanswered. My DH tried to phone them 20 times! I also used the on-line order form which is no more than sending them an email! Are they still in business?

Do you know of a different telephone number for ordering? I am suffereing badly as my hayfever is slowly killing me.

Thanks,

I'm also a chronic hayfever sufferer...Actually ive been with hayfever for 3 months now.Im Brazilian and been living here since last october. Its really annoying this ongoing sneezing, sniffing ,tiredeness and watery eyes. I believe the usage of any sort of medication is just a momentarly relieve and the best thing is to let the nature take its course. However my limit has come to an end and so far Ive tried zertec and another syrup which both had no results..Ive also contact the online website but no one has replied me yet..So, does anyone know whether they are still doing business??? Many thanks

HI all

I went to Gibraltar for two weeks and had no problems at all, as soon as i came back, hayfever hit me with payback, i am in complete bits, i have even had to start taking inhalers to combat wheezing problems.

I just wish it would all go away.

Hi Gummysweets and Rebecca,

We're away from home on holiday for the moment (logged on for the first time in 10 days, so sorry couldn't reply to you before). As soon as we get home at the weekend I'll check up the details.

Last time I spoke to her, she was having problems with the phone.

Reiki wishes for the hayfever,

Polar Bear

Hi Polar Bear [sm=wave.gif]. I have just ordered the honey and pollen pills for myself and family members as we all suffer from chronic hayfever. Fingers crossed it works as well on us as it did on you .

Blessings, Dolphinbay. xx.

Hi all,

I have spoken with them about the website and phone. It seems they have given up on the original website I posted because their hosting provider has been giving them nothing but trouble. I have altered the first message to use their new website which is http://www.medibee.co.uk/

Good luck to all you allergy sufferers.

In the meantime - have you tried Benadryl? My son suffers acutely, and it's given him great relief. He'll be doing the honey thing as well.

I've never heard of the pollen/honey cure, I went down the homeopathy route as I was allergic to freshly cut grass and tree pollen mostly....it took four years to get rid of the grass allergy, although I still have mild hayfever symptoms!

hi there,
this is the first time i have posted on this forum. i was looking up information for my boyfriend on hayfever remedies and i came across this site but it appears i might have it myself. i am really unsure. usually i am bothered with a wee bit rhinitis (all year round) and sneezing occasionally. but yesterday morning i woke and it felt someone had poured battery acid down my throat as it was really sore and i was sneezing a lot more than usual. my nose was also running a lot. and i felt a bit queasy, not anything too major. and way we went for a barbeque and after having some of my boyfriends nasal spray and a few cough sweets to ease my sore throat i felt a bit better. coming home in the car though i felt very queasy (maybe i was just feeling a little motion sick but i don't usually get motion sick) and my throat had got worse and i had a really hacking cough. as a result i went straight to bed when came in (i just felt really awful and my face had started to become sore. radiating out from my nose.) but didn't get much sleep as i was coughing all night and my throat was really bothering me. this morning i got up with a really bad cough, sore head and feeling really hot (although could be coz out flat's quite warm). does anybody know if this is hayfever? i've had days like this before and i actually thought it was a summer head cold but now i'm not so sure because describing the symptoms of how my throat felt to my boyfriend he said it was exacly the same as his hayfever. but how can it be hayfever as sometimes i can go for months with only a wee bit of a runny nose and occasional sneezing?? i feel terrible today and don't think i'll be going in to work. sorry about the long post but i wanted to explain all my symptoms in order that they appeared. please help?

Hi thesmallone, and welcome to HP.

Your symptoms do sound like hayfever. Everyone has different variations on the common symptoms (sneezing, sore eyes, itchy mouth, congestion, etc.). Sometimes people have other problems that are linked to the causes of hayfever (as you mentioned, rhinitis), at the same time - hard to differentiate them sometimes.

As I understand from the papers, etc. this year we have had a particularly high pollen count compared with usual (whatever that is). I have heard of people I know suffering this year that don't normally suffer with hayfever.

Unless you can get a doctor to diagnose the specific problem, try taking different remedies one at a time.

One note I forgot to mention previously, if anyone takes pollen pills you really need to start taking them BEFORE the season starts. They can help mid season, but they work best if you take them before (get the body used to pollen before the big hit comes).

I thought I'd bump up this post to the top for anyone that is interested.

Out of interest I have not taken any medication or pollen pills this year. So far I haven't had any symptoms despite the high pollen counts.

I have been doing some work on myself using Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT - the tapping therapy) over the past 9 months on some emotional issues I had, and as a consequence I have managed to relieve various sensitivity issues (pollen, sun light, certain flavours, etc).

In the past 9 months I have had no problems with bright sunlight, e.g. I have only used my sunglasses once in the past 9 months whilst driving. In the past I would have to wear my sunglasses in all types of sunlight even in winter.

I have only had the odd sneeze (similar quantity to winter time), and no irritations at all.

And I still have 6 pots of pollen pills in the cupboard untouched. I fully expect not use them at all this year.

That's great news polar bear!

It's smszing how natural alternatives can free you from the need for 'medication' once you give them a chance eh! i treat myself wholly homeopathically these days - like you (although not for hayfever) finding a natural approach to my condition has been a godsend!

Much love XXX

We had heard of using local honey as a cure for hayfever and decided to give it a try to help our 11 year old son. He suffers really badly during the summer months and I am reluctant to dose him up with antihistamine all summer. My husband was explaining to my son what we were going to try and why, and suggested that he puts the honey on his toast each morning. My son obviously misheard what my husband said as he looked at him for a while, frowned, and then said..."but Dad, why is putting honey on my toes going to help?"
