Default Acupressure treatment?

Im thinking of doing a course in acupressure. I just cant see myself standing over the client pressing in on points. I feel both the client and I would be very bored.

Hi ya Fossa

If you think its boring, then don't do it!

But all jokes aside, if you really wish to study acupressure and keep your interest up, then you are better to go for Shiatsu ~ Japanese Acupressure Massage or Tuina ~ Chinese Medical Massage. Some Traditional Thai (Yoga) Massage courses also teach acupressure. I wouldn't bother with correspondance courses as acupressure is 3 dimensional not 2 dimensional in a book. You have to feel the "dips" as you press.

Best Wishes

Default Painful first experience of acupuncture

I am new to acupressure (and acupuncture for that matter), and have only started to read a book on the subject. I tried to press a couple of points (Li4 and K1) on my husband, Li4 was very sensitive to him. He told me that has had the same experience of pain with the acupuncurist a few years ago too. I wonder if that's the sign of blockage? Anyways, he woke up in the middle of the night with aching shoulders (he is also a light sleeper)... I am sitting now wondering if I did something wrong (with the pressure points) or it's the healing process and it's a normal reaction of a human organism.

Hi Elsa

Welcome to Hp. Sometimes it's hard to give advice on Hp with limited amount of information. Why did you choose Kid1 and Li4 to work on?

Li4 a very powerful point used for many different ailments, one of which is shoulder problems. So it maybe a healing reaction or simply be a coincidence. Acupressure like any other therapy takes a while to understand, feel, and improve.

Kid1 is basically the same as the solar plexus point in foot reflexology. It can be both energising and grounding, depending on pressure levels and intention. If your hubby is a light sleeper, Kid3 behind the ankle is a good point to try out.

Best Wishes

One solution is to try a one-day acupressure course. Then you will know more and figure out if you want to take things further.

Trust me, acupressure is not boring. So many things are happening at the same time. And when a client releases, I get this amazing warm rush. It really is a pleasure to give a treatment.
